Sam Neill and Laura Dern talk about the “inappropriate” of their Jurassic Park romance

Jurassic Worldthe reboot of the dinosaur saga, ends its third installment, Domainwhich will be released in Argentina on June 2 and brings together the new top duo of Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard with part of the original cast.

Among them, of course, is the star couple of the first film he directed steven spielberg: Sam Neill and Laura Dern, who will play paleontologist Alan Grant and paleontobiologist Ellie Sattler, respectively, nearly thirty years later.

In that 1993 blockbuster, Dern and Neill fell in love despite the nearly twenty -year difference that separated them: at the time of filming, he was 23 and he was 43.

But those times were different: none of them were surprised that there could be a fictional romance with such an age distance between real interpreters.

“I’m 20 years older than Laura!” said Neill in a recent interview with The Sunday Times. “At that time it was a perfectly appropriate age difference for a male and female lead,” the actor clarifies.

“It never occurred to me that it wasn’t appropriate until I opened a magazine and there was a story about older men and women. Guys like Harrison Ford and Sean Connery were acting with the younger ones. And there I’m on the list. Be real, ‘”Neill said.

Dern, on the other hand, was silent then. “Well, I thought it was perfectly appropriate to fall in love with Sam Neill,” she said.

However, he added, “Just now, when we were in a moment of cultural awareness about patriarchy, I thought, ‘Wow! Aren’t we just the same age?’ The difference in our age Jurassic Park It’s completely inappropriate, ”he joked.

Dern and an empowering role

On the same note with The Sunday Times, Dern recounted how he approached the role of Ellie Sattler. And he said that to Jurassic World: Dominionis less attentive to age, as she focuses on ensuring that her character continues to promote female representation on the big screen.

the star of Blue Velvet Y Big Little Lies put her Jurassic Park paleontobiologist in the same category as Ellen Ripley, the lieutenant and pilot Sigourney Weaver brought to the franchise Alienas iconic female roles that changed Hollywood’s view of action heroines.

“It’s really moving,” Dern said. “Many women working in science and technology point to a similarity between Ellie’s heroism and women in that field.”

How the “Jurassic World” ends, the new legend

Little is known about the plot of Jurassic World: Dominioneven after seeing the awesome trailer for the film directed by Colin Trevorrow, the same director of the first in this new legend, which began in 2015 with Jurassic World: Jurassic World.

So far, it is known that everything is taking place four years after the events of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdomwhich premiered in June 2018. Dinosaurs are once again in control of the entire Earth, and humans need to learn to live with them as a new problem emerges.

And former military soldier and dinosaur keeper Owen Grady (Chris Pratt) and Dr. Claire Dearing (Bryce Dallas Howard) must join forces to solve this.

This time they will have the help of legendary paleontologists Grant and Sattler, and of doctor and mathematician Ian Malcolm, the character played by Jeff Goldblum in the original legend and join the second installment of the new franchise.
