Third film in the “Jurassic World” sequel opens in Brazilian cinemas on June 2
The actress DeWanda Wise told in an interview with Variety how was the preparation to face the character Kayla, from “Jurassic World: Dominion”, described as “smart and resourceful”but also how “possessing a relaxed charisma à la Indiana Jones“.
“This is a very pure fanbase. Maybe it’s the love of dinosaurs, but everyone who talked to me just wanted me to succeed. I don’t think that’s common in other fanbases, but what I heard was, ‘We can barely wait to meet her'”said.
She confesses to having encountered some criticisms, which pointed to a motivation “lacradora” behind its inclusion in the film. “As soon as you put a woman, a woman of color, a woman of color on screen, for some people it will have a connotation. They don’t know the story of the movie yet, but my image is inherently politicized. I know that.“, pointed.
Another detail that led to this politicization was the decision to make Kayla a bisexual character. “It’s important to diversify what we understand as sexuality. When the conversation is about representation in general, at some point these identities need to be well tailored to the characters, they need to be part of their fiber and truth.“, completed wise.
