British musician Andrew “Fletch” Fletcher died just a few months into his 61st birthday, Depeche Mode reported Thursday on Facebook. He participated in the founding of synthpop and new wave group in 1980, first as a bassist, before settling on keyboards.
We were shocked and crushed with grief to learn of the untimely death of our dear friend, family member and colleague Andy “Fletch” Fletcherwritten by the band on social media.
Fletch has a true heart of gold and is always there when we need support, lively conversation, laughter, or cold paint.
The causes of his death were not disclosed, Depeche Mode is content with itself in requesting that the privacy of the musician’s family be respected at this difficult time.
Andy Fletcher founded the group Composition of Sound with Vince Clarke in the late 1970s, shortly before Martin L. Gore arrived. The group was renamed Depeche Mode in 1980 by would-be singer Dave Gahan.
If he wasn’t the most experienced musician in the group, Andy Fletcher stands out for his business and marketing acumen, thus occupying an important place in Depeche Mode.
In 2002, he founded British label Toast Hawaii, whose main success remains the signature electronic music group Client, described in the style CLIEИT, before the latter left the record company in 2006.
