Louis-Jean Cormier accepted the invitation to write Fingers of the heart on the occasion of the 7th Song at school. This initiative, organized each year, offers the opportunity for elementary and secondary students to mix their voices with the voice of an artist in a song specially created for the occasion.
Fingers of the heart was recorded in two versions: one was sung and the other was instrumental. The piece was arranged by Jean-Nicolas Trottier to be performed with the musicians of the Orchester symphonique de Montréal (OSM), performed by maestro Rafael Payare.
When I approached to write the new Song at school, a big smile appeared on my face, Louis-Jean Cormier said in a press release. I’ll admit that I quietly appreciated the idea of being asked to do it, while secretly being jealous of my artist friends who had done it before!
A performance at the Maison symphonique de Montréal was immortalized and the video was posted on Friday on the website of La Fabrique culturelle de Télé-Québec (New window).
For the video, young people from a choir of 12 students from a Laval school added their voices to the voice of Louis-Jean Cormier and to music performed by OSM.
Culture pour tous, the organization behind the initiative, has prepared an educational kit for schools willing to participate. This includes not only orchestral, vocal and lyrical scores, but also details of an original choreography created by Montreal dance company PPS Danse.
To access it, you must register on the website of Journées de la culture, which sponsored the event.
Ariane Moffatt has already signed Together, sensitivethe School Song of the year 2021. In recent years, Elisapie, Damien Robitaille and The Boulay sister, among other artists, have participated in the initiative.
