Last night, Diego Torres re-interacted with his audience at the Gran Rex Theater for the second time, with two more dates left there, as part of his current national tour where he presented his latest album Atlantic on footin which international artists participated and there were also songs born during the pandemic lockdown, with lyrics that were a true reflection of it.

The cold night didn’t stop thousands of spectators, mostly women around 40 years old, from gathering in front of the doors of the legendary theater on Corrientes Avenue to do some sort of preview before entering the room. . Hustle, laugh and the occasional fan singing from outside in the name of their idol; clear indication of the scream to be moved within the room.

Few men were among the majority: most responded to their wives ’companions, with the exception of a few who really stood out as sympathizers to the longtime Argentine singer and actor.

The beginning of dancing fans

Just minutes before 9:00 pm, the lights in the theater went out, while there were still spectators looking for their seats. Everything is surprising, fast. Suddenly the neon LED lights turned on and Diego Torres immediately appeared on the scene, standing firmly in the middle. He wore a tight black, with a vest that included side pins, over a short -sleeved black shirt.

The solid band that accompanied him for two and a half hours of the concert consisted of three wind instruments, two keyboardists, two guitarists, a drummer and a percussionist. All of them, lined up in a grandstand behind Torres, are a kind of resounding clock that is almost non-stop, as a large portion of the songs play in succession without a break.

In an impeccable figure, very athletic, the vocalist mentioned at one point, between jokes, about his love of sports, cycling and swimming.

Diego started the song dreamsfrom the year 2001. And although the reason was the presentation of his work born of a pandemic, there is nothing lacking in songs from his long discography which began in 1992 with a self-titled album.

The first reaction of the fans was to stand up for a series of songs that included topics such as Opening paths, Walking Y Today. Although it is worth noting that the motivator was the singer herself, who from the stage encouraged her fans to dance: she handed the microphone to them and also rotated her hips in a slow and sexy motion, which inspires his fans so that the reunion becomes an unforgettable moment.

After several consecutive songs, the singer later formally greeted his audience: “Good evening, Buenos Aires! The relish here again. Thank you for accepting dates after the difficulties experienced. I need to talk about this world that has deeply affected us. Hugs for all those who have lost a family member and those who cannot afford to remove their loved ones. “

He knows how to press the key

After the applause received from all the spectators, the actor continued the words: “The many things we do not value! People are like this: we are not aware until things happen to us. This song talks about this ”, he said slowly and produced the lyrics of dawnof his new plate.

Immediately, Torres began walking on stage following the repertoire. The backdrop includes a variety of curtains with different images that recreate letter after letter: most of them have to do with nature, family and love of couples.

“To these temperamental women, with a lot of character, who have changed our lives, I dedicate this song.” What he was referring to You, which lyrics say “You have told me so many things that I cannot forget, you made me think, kahit huli na alam ko na”. The women immediately jumped into the room, cellphones raised.

Diego has that: he knows how to crack the key, the sensitivity of women, because his lyrics are effective. Mentioned in songs referring to the opposite sex, what he knew best to talk about, as it happened, as well as in The last nightwhere an image of a large red moon appeared in the background.

Another reference to the pandemic

After a short break, the singer resumed speaking, re-reminding these people of confinement but of creating music -according to him- with his bassist Yadam “that there was time to lock us up in two-by-two. office, a Cuban and a Argentinian “, he joked. He also took the opportunity to say that he had an accident while cycling and broke his rib, in addition to the spread of Covid.

“It was hard to be alone, more so for a man like me, who likes to talk, but luckily we are here. I also thank my colleagues, who are the bridge ”. After a few more jokes, he referred to his two Cuban musicians: he also mentioned his historic Alex Batista, who plays keyboard, saxophonist, guitarist roles and even sings a few songs with him.

Some of his nephews (his siblings ’children) are on stage, as they clearly tend to have their vocations in music. The standout, above all, is Juan Maluendez, with whom he is a duet such as the cicada of remembered María Elena Walsh, that she took the opportunity to honor her aunt Tita, who was present in the room.

In addition, he received a visit from a guitarist friend of his, who accompanied him with an electro-acoustic guitar, standing next to him.

Behind comes the classic Penelope, where Torres took off his vest and wore a swallowtail jacket-coat, with silver diamonds on both lapels. Suddenly the six large ceiling lamps and the wind instruments, played by three people from Rosario, were the main stars of the night.

“Time agrees with everyone, for one side or the other, time is smart”, the singer-songwriter launched to make way for I know you will never come back. The women stood up again in the room and at the same time sang loudly, to the point that Diego turned on the microphone again so they could sing a large part of the song.

Diego, a charlatan as he calls himself, once again looks forward to an important moment of the night: “Time shows that songs are magical. And this song reappears. And in different places they cling. here like a flag. ” This is about Color of hope, whose lyrics have earned him its recognition and translation into various languages across the planet; that is, international fame.

A nod and more hits

The second part of the concert consisted of the following: everyone disappeared on stage. And after the uncertainty of the spectators, a light turned on on the right side of the room and a bandoneon player appeared who was later accompanied by Diego Torres for a certain version of Come back the tango Carlos Gardel and Alfredo Le Pera, recorded by Lolita Torres ’son for a symphonic album in 2020 along with a Colombian philharmonic.

On stage, a dance couple takes care of the choreography in a beautiful way.

Then, without leaving the city music, the band reappeared on stage and started Try to be betteralthough it was immediately mixed with infectious reggae that prompted the public to dance again, and even overflowed the sides of the seats, to the point that security personnel had to intervene so as not to crowd too many people near the stage.

The other glamorous classics that have been circulating for years on radio have followed each other with the same performance as at the beginning of the concert. That’s how they sound Let me go, for you I will go, Sunday today on the rumba key (this includes a great family video, where Diego Torres accompanies Alex on the vocals) and new Pretty much announced the accompaniment of another of his nephews from Mar del Plata to sing it together.

“Thank you very much my dear Buenos Aires; in life we don’t need too many things to be happy ”, he said at the exact moment some fans threw metal pieces of paper at the public.

The concert seemed to be over, a sudden farewell behind the singer’s gratitude to all his staff. But that didn’t happen, as two high chairs appeared on stage and after so much public pleading, Torres didn’t wait more than a few minutes for his return.

an intimate ending

When the stage lights came on again, Diego was sitting there next to Alex Batista, accompanied by an acoustic guitar. It’s an intimate ending, but at the same time moving.

“How many years has it been? Above all, be united. You have to celebrate the years. We look back and see how many things have happened and what will happen, with a clear philosophy of not knowing what this destiny will bring. They accepted me as a person, as a singer who made people happy with their songs, but they also accepted my other profession as an artist.

The song Together foreverpart of the hit series in the early ’90s, The Golden Rocket Gangwas accompanied by scenes in which a young Torres along with “Chueco” Adrián Sur and other growing actors, were shown alongside Diego Maradona, on a star’s visit to the memorable television strip.

In various encores are added glorious songs such as We are together: “In heaven there was an angel who heard us talking about love, and with his wings in the air he lit your face,” Diego Torres tones wholeheartedly to give way to a self -reference, before the tone. for free and say goodbye to a shower of applause: “I’ve loved it since I was a kid. And it happened. “

Those words echoed loudly by him, as a farewell between song and song, in an emotional ending as a product of a long-awaited reunion that the musician owes a yes or no to his loyal listener.
