According to Variety, production on “Maestro” began in May and the film should be released in 2023. The project’s direction would originally be from Steven Spielbergbut Cooper asked the filmmaker to take on the project entirely when he was asked to star in it.

I [disse a Spielberg]: ‘I’ve always felt I could play a conductor, but can I research the material and see if I can write and direct it? Would you let me do this?’“, the actor told Variety.

Cooper said that the filmmaker might take a while to have an agenda: “Steven has many interests — he will pick one thing and all other things will be on hold. I think he knew he wasn’t going to make that movie anytime soon. He was kind enough to hand it over to me, and that’s what I’ve been doing for the past four and a half years.“, continued.

“Maestro” will be the first role of Cooper as a director since “A Star Is Born”. Further details of the film, as well as the official premiere forecast, have not yet been released by Netflix.
