It’s been an intense and hectic six weeks. A month and a half of media trial in which Johnny Depp (58) and Amber Heard (36) met again to settle who of the two has defamed and harmed the personal and professional image of the other.

Legally, it is nothing more than a civil battle it resulted in a carnival of a public dimension thanks to the live broadcast of televisions and streaming platforms where all the details of a dark relationship that ended in divorce in 2016 after 15 months of marriage were broadcast.

The libel trial between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard ended on Friday afternoon, May 27, a the deliberation phase of the jury which was suspended for Memorial Day weekend in the United States.

Johnny Depp sued Amber Heard for $ 50 million in Fairfax County Circuit Court in Virginia for an opinion piece he published in the Washington Post in December 2018 describing himself as “public person representing domestic abuse”.

His lawyers say the plaintiff was vilified by the article even though he is never mentioned by name.

When will the verdict of the trial be pronounced?

The seven members of the jury deliberate from Friday 27, concluding the session in the afternoon. They agreed to meet again on Tuesday May 31 to discuss, so there is no confirmed date yet to know the resolution of the case, but it could be this Tuesday.

What happens to Johnny Depp if he loses the trial against Amber Heard?

If he does not receive a favorable verdict, Depp will not receive the 50 million payment and Amber Heard will not have to pay the plaintiff’s legal fees, which could appeal.

Social networks actively participated in the trial between the actor of Pirates of the Caribbean and the actress of Aquaman and sided with one or the other.

However, although there was clear support for Depp, the actress also received positive messages.

Johnny Depp surpassed 19 million followers on Instagram before the verdict was known. In 2020, when the actor of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory opened her account on the social network, quickly reached a million followers. Soon after, that number quintupled.

Although the number has grown over the past two years, the truth is that as of May 24, 2022, Depp held 16,000,000, but shortly after the trial was released, he won another three million and is already close to 20.
