Oscar-winning Canadian filmmaker John Zaritsky has passed away at the age of 79

Documentary filmmaker John Zaritsky died of heart failure on March 30 in Vancouver, according to his family.

Born in St. Catharines, Ontario, Mr. Zaritsky has had a career spanning over 40 years and frequently discusses controversial topics including disease, drugs and assisted suicide.

He has produced notable and influential titles such as No Limits: The Thalidomide Saga in 2016 and Leave Them Laughing in 2010, and various stages of the documentary series Frontline critically acclaimed, including Murder on Abortion Row in 1996.

In 1983, Mr. Zaritsky won an Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature for an episode of The Fifth Estate, titled “Just Another Missing Kid”, about the missing Ottawa teenager.

He also twice won a Gemini award (the equivalent of the Quebec Gémeaux awards), for an episode of College Days, College Nights in 2005 and The Suicide Tourist in 2008.

Mr. left. Zaritsky is survived by his wife, Annie Clutton, his son -in -law Errin and his son -in -law Bern as well as his grandchildren, Imogen and Reid.

In her memory, she wants you to do two things, Ms Clutton wrote in a press release. Bring a friend for a beer or two, watch a local documentary and let your life change a little.
