Page, who came out as transgender in December 2020, felt “closed” again
The actor Elliot Pageknown as “The Umbrella Academy”, recalled a traumatic moment in his career, when he had not yet come out as transgender publicly, during his interview with Esquire. To the vehicle, he told that he was forced by the producer of “Juno”, released in 2007, to wear a dress and high heels in his debut.
“When ‘Juno’ was at the height of its popularity, during the preview period, I was put in the closet, dressed in high heels and a whole outfit. I wasn’t well and I didn’t know how to talk about it with anyone.”said Page about the moment during the Toronto Film Festival.
Elliot even talked about the moment he was rushed to luxury stores so he could choose his eventual outfit for the award. “I said I wanted to wear a suit and Fox Searchlight[producersof’Juno’)basicallysaid’Noyouhavetowearadress'”declared.
The star also stressed that the decision taken by Foxwithout accepting their own opinion, takes away the option of other people/women who don’t want to wear only dresses and heels. “Many women dress the way I dress”he added. “I understand that people don’t understand. ‘Oh, fuck you, you’re famous and you have money and you had to wear a dress, what a shame.’ I understand that reaction. people would understand that this shit literally almost killed me”finished.
The gender transition announcement was made by Elliot Page through social networks in 2020. “Hello friends. I want to share with you that I am trans and my pronouns are he/him, and my name is Elliot”he wrote. “I’m lucky to be writing this. To be here. To have arrived at this point in my life”he said. “The truth is that even though I feel deeply happy right now, and knowing how much privilege I carry, I am also afraid. Afraid of invasion, hate, jokes and violence”he concluded.
