Unlike many other cases in the world of rock, the beginning of Ale Kurz’s solo career was not due to a separation, a crisis or a struggle. It was simply the desire to do something different, at most triggered by the very particular panorama of the pandemic, which has upset many plans in the last two years.

On the one hand, in 2018 he joined the “superband” Los Socios del Rock, which accompanied Soledad Pastorutti when he did the show of rock versions of classic songs. Also, the following year he made the theme to breathe, for the homonymous film by Gabriel Griecco. Meanwhile, he joined singer Andrea Prodan to play David Bowie covers, also touring with Kermesse Redonda.

To celebrate that release and the single’s appearance on digital platforms traveling through your dreams, an acoustic version of the El Bordo theme, will be presented live this Saturday at Club Lucille. Tickets are already sold out, so he announced another date on August 5th.

The speech

-At one point it seemed like your solo album was a “pandemic” project, until the El Bordo shows came back, but today you totally mixed them.

-I feel that at first people welcomed the release of the album with some uncertainty, fearing that the band had disbanded. But at no time was that my intention and of course I always made it clear. Now that the band has started playing and I am still doing solo dates, the doubts have dissipated and I have decided to do a show at Lucille. It’s a small place and sold out in a week so I added another date.

-You also played in the interior of the country.

-Yup. I’ve been to Neuquén, Río Secondo and Villa María, so I feel that the project is starting to take shape and make itself understood. I’ve done solo shows and played at Kónex with a band last year, but in Lucille I’ll preview a guitar format with a loopera, generating some live electronic loops, as well as Javier Casalla’s violin and Paula’s cello Pomeraniec. There will also be two guests who have confirmed that they will be there. It is a smaller format, a café-concert.

Can you do both at the same time?

– Totally. It’s been a very boring two years, so I have no problem playing all the time! And if I have to play every weekend, I do it with joy.

The shows of El Bordo

-When did you play with El Bordo again, after the pandemic?

-Last year we did Opere, then two shows in the auditorium of the Parque Centenario, El Teatro Flores, Auditorio Oeste, Monte Grande and San Miguel. Now Cordova and Rosario are coming. The repertoire is from the 15 years of Iacanthus, so we played the whole album and then we went through different eras. All the shows were full and the people with a plus of energy! We were very surprised by people’s reaction.

-It is a reunion, to meet again.

-Yup. Did you see that at a time during the pandemic we were wondering if streaming was here to stay or not? Well, he clearly wasn’t here to stay. It’s a format that doesn’t compete with the experience of seeing a live band. A state of mind with a very high energy point is generated. There is a line about concerts that I really like: you always leave with something you didn’t have when you arrive.

-The streaming does not generate it.

-Who hasn’t changed the life of a concert? It is an experiential experience that hits you in the chest and triggers an emotion. I see that the seats are full and that in the same weekend La Renga, Metallica and there was a Quilmes Rock played. It is paradoxical that this happens during an economic crisis, which shows how important it is for people to attend a concert. The moment in which Argentine music lives makes me happy.

-You left me a stinging question: shows that changed your life?

– There are several, because I really like watching bands. On a trip I saw Eddie Vedder alone and he inspired me a lot for what is happening now bright blue. It was funny when he said that when he went to that town with Pearl Jam he played in a stadium for 50,000 people, and when he came alone he was a place for “barely” 5,000 people. At one point he said he would do something he could only do there: he stepped away from the microphone and sang a cappella on a ukulele. It was a before and after.

– Did you do it in one of your shows?

I tried it once, yes. I really like someone yelling to ask me if I know anything about Divided, and I know. I can make songs that I have in the eternal hearth.

-What is the repertoire like in these solo shows?

-It was put together by trial and error. Last year I did 12 dates between November and December. It was getting stronger. I play all eight songs, plus Breathe, travel through your dreams and five songs by El Bordo. and covers how Keep living without your love, Spaghetti rock and hell is adorablebecause I was playing with the Kermesse Redonda.
