A return to the basics for the 24th Gala Québec Cinéma

The 24th Gala Québec Cinéma will begin Sunday night to celebrate the best in 7th art in La Belle Province. Fourteen Iris prizes, including best film, will be awarded to the actors on the big screen in a ceremony broadcast live from 8 pm at ICI TÉLÉ.

After two years of pandemic-which notably forced the Gala Québec Cinéma team to hold a reduced form ceremony last year-Geneviève Schmidt wants to get back to the basics: why are we still hanging out in the cinema?

To do this, it promises a particular opening sequence where artists from Quebec cinema will tell how their romance began on the big screen.

At the top of the Iris Award nominations was the country drama drunk birds by Ivan Grbovic, as well as the adaptation Maria Chapdelaineby Sébastien Pilote, both nominated in 16 categories, including Best Film and Best Director.

These feature films will compete with drama Without Havana by Maxime Giroux (7 nominations), the detective thriller norbourg by Sébastien Pilote (6 nominations), and the punchy film Beans by Mohawk director Tracey Deer (11 nominations), also running for these two trophies.

The snatch of time by Francis Leclerc also stood out with 13 nominations, primarily in the categories of best screenplay, best artistic direction and best cinematography.

Film viewers once again announced this year for the 2022 Iris Public Prize, which brings together in one category the ten films and documentaries most popular in Quebec theaters this year, including The Perfect Family Guide, A revision at The perfect victim.

In total, 27 feature fiction films, 14 feature documentaries, 29 short fiction films, 14 short documentaries and 13 animated shorts were reviewed in recent weeks, for a total of 188 finalists in the 2022 Iris Prize.
