The Théâtre de Verdure in Lafontaine Park, which has been closed since 2014 due to no longer using the old facility and has been rebuilt since then, will come to life again this summer.
The City of Montreal announced Monday a program of more than thirty free shows, from circus to cinema, through music and dance.
Placed, like the old building, on an island bordering the northern part of the park basin, the installation can accommodate up to 2,500 spectators.
Les Ballets Jazz Montréal will begin the season with the show’s opening on Wednesday, June 29. The dance troupe will feature excerpts fromEssence, a new invention. Free ticket attendees have already found takers.
Most events thereafter will work on a first person come, first served basis.
In a press release, the City noted several highlights planned for the summer program, including performances by Les Grands Ballets Canadiens, Martha Wainwright, the Orchester métropolitain and Jérôme 50.

The first Théâtre de Verdure was inaugurated in 1956, and retained the principle of first come, first servedno ticket office.
