Harvey Weinstein will face two sexual abuse charges in Britain for assaulting a woman allegedly committed in London in 1996, after British prosecutors said today that they authorized police to indict the former film producer.
The Crown Prosecution Service said in a statement that “the charges had been cleared” against Weinstein, 70, following a review of evidence gathered by the London Metropolitan Police in their investigation.

Police said the alleged abuse of the woman, who is now 50, which took place in July and August 1996.
After allegations against Weinstein surfaced in 2017, British police said they were investigating multiple sexual abuse allegations against Weinstein for incidents occurring between the 1980s and 2015.
Unlike many other countries, Britain does not have a prescription for rape or sexual abuse.
Guilty in America
Weinstein is serving a 23-year prison sentence for rape after being found guilty in 2020 in New York for abusing two women.
He is in prison in California, where he was extradited last year, and awaits trial on charges of abusing five women in Los Angeles and Beverly Hills from 2004 to 2013.
Weinstein, co-founder of the Miramax entertainment company and The Weinstein Company studio, was one of Hollywood’s most powerful figures, having produced films such as Pulp Fiction: Violent Times Y the game of tears.
The announcement in England comes two weeks after British prosecutors cleared police to indict Kevin Spacey on four counts of sexually abusing three men. The alleged incidents occurred in London between March 2005 and August 2008 and one in the West of England in April 2013.
