The City of Montreal on Thursday announced its new vision for the development, by 2031, of the Maisons de la culture, which is celebrating their 40the birthday this year. This plan, which notably provides for the modernization and construction of new Maison, aims to give Montrealers better access to art and culture.
It is a hidden treasure that needs to be brought to light said Ericka Alneus, head of culture and heritage on the executive committee of the City of Montreal.
value this gem owned by all Montrealers is a priority for the City of Montreal.
The new vision is built around four pillars: accessibility and proximity, inclusion and equity, connection and community, and excellence and innovation.
Concretely, the City of Montreal will build three new Maisons de la culture-Center Sanaaq (downtown), Espace Rivière (Rivière-des-Prairies) and Cœur Nomade (Montréal-Nord)-and organize 12 of them in 10 boroughs.
The purpose of this work is to enhance the visibility of the Houses and the reception offered to the public, but also to bring their equipment to standard.
The municipality also aims to focus on activities that promote the encounter of artists and their works in public as well as the exchange of people; the free or low -cost presentation of exhibitions, shows and screenings, or collaboration with arts, school and community organizations.
There are people who can afford to buy tickets [pour des salles de spectacle]but there are people who do not have access to it and the City has this responsibility to ensure that everyone can develop cultural citizenshipunderlined Ericka Alneus.
Many people, including young people and immigrants, began to discover culture through the culture of the Maisons de lahe added.
Maisons de la culture will also play an incubation role for professional artistic projects. This will be a great opportunity for artists to try and develop works, but also to communicate with citizens.
