The Tony Awards had their first ceremony in 1947, becoming a classic gathering that showcases the best of Broadway theater. The current season, which included 34 new productions, represents a full return to theaters after nearly two years of mandatory closure due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Last year, and under the strict health measures imposed by the pandemic, the most awarded musical was Moulin Rouge!who took ten of the fourteen statuettes he aspired to.
