Although the meeting of Sin Bandera, after nine years apart, was actually in 2015, in all this time they have mainly dedicated themselves to touring the greatest hits and the release of albums recorded live as First line.
Right now, or rather last month, they took Mexican Leonel García and Argentine Noel Schajris Frequency, an album with ten new songs that show the current excellent state of the authorial duo. It is their first really new album since 2006, and they are both very enthusiastic about the result and the good reception from the audience.
Its stats show 2.2 billion streams across platforms and over 7 billion views on YouTube.

“It’s an album that comes out at a very special moment in our life. We know what’s important in our hearts and we had to share it with our fans. It is about that moment when we learn to value Love above all else. We are talking Frequency that connects us all, ”Noel Schajris said on launch day.
Two weeks later, they chatted on Zoom and gave more details on the current Sin Bandera moment. They also said they are still active with their solo careers, basically because they had pre-pandemic shows pending. Leonel, in fact, will play in Buenos Aires on Thursday 30 June, at the Gran Rex Theater with an acoustic trio.

-Have you imagined that all the performances of the last few years would lead to an album of new songs?
-Noel: Yes. It was planned. It’s been 20 years since that first album, and to celebrate, of course, we could do a tour, but it wouldn’t be enough because the public and ourselves deserve to celebrate with ten new songs, like that first album, with that spirit and desire to hear. which begins a new stage for the next 20 years, with dreams and the desire to continue to grow and reach more listeners in the world.
– Did they prepare it in time or was it done very quickly?
-Noel: We started composing about two years ago. The pandemic has just arrived and it has all been more complicated, but we did it. As soon as it was possible to travel, Leo came to Los Angeles and even got vaccinated near my home. The first song that came out was SoonThe second one Directly to you And so, on each subsequent journey, each song confirmed that there was something special and that the magic was intact and that we continue to enjoy what we do more than ever.
-What was the composition and contact like during the pandemic, Leo? Did they stop composing or did they compose on Zoom?
-Lion: In person. We were looking for the moment when the borders were open to be able to fly to Los Angeles and be at Noel’s house. It was very nice to go back to the organic, with the guitar, like my whole life. We went back to basics, to the way we made the first record. The foundation of what we do has always been a piano and a guitar. We might as well do gigs with that essence, but luckily we have a great band.
-It must have been comforting to meet after so much confinement.
-Lion: Yes. It was great to meet again in these dark times, as it was only the height of the pandemic. But we had great faith that it would happen and that we would eventually see the light at the end of the tunnel. And prepare something special for the people, because the 20th anniversary was actually in 2021, but we couldn’t celebrate in the exact year. We just knew we were going to show this album.
Are you more excited about touring with new songs than touring with a hit repertoire?
-Noel: Totally. Renew your desire. The new songs motivate you because they are fresh, fresh from the oven. It’s great to hear the audience singing the new melodies and new lyrics. It’s the only way to keep growing: to have new topics to keep having fun.
-Lion: If you’re at a show, make a new song, and people sing it to you, mood enhancement is like when there’s a new line or line in a 20-year relationship with a friend. A trip or a new anecdote greatly strengthens the relationship with a friend and, in the case of music, with the public. When a new song reconnects and people sing it to you, it means the relationship is updated.
How is the tour coming?
-Noel: There is a show in August, but the Frequency Tour most officially begins on September 30 in Monterrey, Mexico. From that moment on there are around 50 confirmed shows and we hope that Europe, Brazil and of course Argentina will arrive later, where there is an audience that is historically very special to us. I will never forget the first Gran Rex of 2004, where I had to pinch myself because I couldn’t believe I was in the theater where I had seen so many shows by great artists in the 90s.
