Australian composer (and also actor) Tim Minchin was, at the time, in charge of composing the songs for the musical, while the screenplay for the original musical was written by Dennis Kelly (creator of Utopia).

The film will premiere on the streaming service for Christmas 2022.

Was the original a success?

The funny thing is that Danny DeVito’s Matilda, at the time of her premiere, wasn’t a hit. Its production cost was estimated at $ 36 million, and what it grossed in North America (the United States and Canada) did not cover it: $ 33,459,000. It became a cult film.

It is believed that Tronchatoro was based on the school director of Liccy Dahl (she was the wife of Roald Dahl and the producer of the film), an extremely creative woman when it came to punishments. Liccy and a friend once tried to bring ice cream to their rooms. When they were discovered, the manager made them wait until dawn while the ice cream melted.
