Mexican director Guillermo del Toro said on Friday that he had opted for a rebellious and disobedient version of Pinocchioin his new animated film about this classic character, due out in December this year.

“I was very interested in the fact that it was not in favor of the good morals and structure of most of the ‘pinocchios’, that if you are disobedient it is bad, this (the character bets) that it is good to be disobedient and not follow orders. I believe in that transformation, I believe that to be who you are you don’t have to betray your nature, “he said in a virtual chat.

“What matters to me is if it moves me, if it makes me laugh, if it makes me cry, if I understand it; the film couldn’t be more personal, obviously it has to do with life, death, love,) what it means to behave like a puppet and what it means to behave like a human being, “he stressed.

The film is an animated musical with the ‘stop motion’ technique, set in Mussolini’s Italy, based on the classic tale by Carlo Collodi, and was directed by Del Toro and the American Mark Gustafson.

“It is more complicated for us to have filmed in Guadalajara but for me it was worth it, because the love I have for animation is not a passing thing, Super 8 was my first love and it is defending the origin of what I believed in was cinema and for me it was a very long return, for 14 years I considered an idea that I was already able to realize “, he specified.
