Candela Vetrano (30), Agustín Cachete Sierra (31), Mery Del Cerro (37) and Tomás Fonzi (40), directed by Ciro Zorzoli, are the protagonists of The trutha work that challenges its characters on this theme, which however could be discussed in a philosophical tone, in this context they are resolved with great humor.

Does the truth exist? Do we always have to tell the truth? Some questions arise around this abstract noun, but it tests us with respect to very concrete situations. Y when it comes to relationships and infidelity, the truth becomes dangerous.

These four young actors are overflowing with enthusiasm for the challenge of a new version of The truththe comedy by French director Florian Zeller, produced by RGB Entertainment -with Gustavo Yankelevich in the lead-, which premiered on Friday 17 June at the new Teatro El Politeama.

With you the interpreters

“My character is Martin, a compulsive liar, manipulator. She is a partner of Julieta (Mery’s character). Tomás plays Lorenzo, my best friend, who is in a relationship with Ana (the role of Candela) and my character is involved with her in a parallel story, ”teases Agustín Sierra. The stories intertwine feelings are confused, truth is hidden and appearances are deceiving.

-Have you seen the previous version of this work, which was made in 2019-2020?

Augustine: When we knew we were going to do it, we saw it once on video. And then, we have been forbidden to review it, so as not to copy it no action.

Thomas: Our director’s intention was to show us the installation system. Because it has a whole choreography of contrasts and sets, with a very precise coordination, which has been maintained compared to the previous version. But the rest of the work, acting, Zorzoli built it from scratch.

Maria: And it’s great, because even though it’s the same job, with the same text, it is interesting that it is different.

Candle: Also, we are a younger cast and one that also proposes changes.

Work appropriate to the times

The same characters, the same situations and flirtations with truth and lies; but with a language adapted to the age of the new protagonists and some hints at the times.

The words lover or cuckold are old”Observes Candela. “Now let’s say ´my partner´”, puts Tomás for example. An inclusive language also appears. “I used it at one point, but I don’t know if they will now fine me for it …” Agustín jokes.

“We live in paradigm shift in love relationships”, Reflects Tomás and everyone nods. They are part of a generation that has “another head” in the face of diversity in the way it deals with emotional bonds. And they believe they will bring freshness to the environment.

-What does the work propose?

Candle: How far is honesty and what are the complications of telling the truth. It puts some good name out of the truth and makes you think.

Augustine: Not only in terms of relationships, but also in terms of friendship. From humor and not from drama. It’s fun to see how one person thinks he knows them all and at the end of the play we see that he doesn’t. I think everyone who comes to visit will feel identified at some point, as well as laugh.

Maria: It is a comedy that can be seen by groups of friends, couples, families. Invite everyone. It also involves the question of whether or not to tell the truthat the idea of taking care of the other person so as not to hurt themwhatever bond you have with her.

Thomas: It is a very cleverly written work; every text and every movement are functional to what comes after. Y always keeps the viewer uncertain that’s the truth. When it convinces you of a truth, you discover that it is quite the opposite.

Humor, infallible remedy

– Is everything told by humor?

Maria: Yes, sure, it’s a comedy. A re-comedy.

Augustine: We could do it as a drama; but the idea of this job is to laugh. It’s a dizzying sunset.

Thomas: Laughing is good for your health. And here the laughter comes from discomfort or from being questioned and you laugh as an escape.

So, between the fact that nothing is as it seems and the speed of the scenes, “when the show ends, the audience will think they have to come back again and see it from scratch with everything they know now,” says Tomás.

And in addition to having a lot of laughs, viewers will walk away with a few questions. “What is the truth? There are facts, but not truths. There is no absolute truth ”, reflects Candela. “It’s a topic that opens up a vast world to explore,” adds Agustín.

three ex Almost angels they met again to do The truth. They have known each other since they were children and now, together with Fonzi, they will try to win over audiences of all ages. “It seems to me that the young people who come to visit us will face something different from what they imagine”, Candela thinks.

“Maybe they think it’s a basic comedy and they’ll be surprised by something deeper, which will invite them to think,” adds Mery. “Actually the comedy It’s not about making jokesbut the humor arises in the situations between the characters and throughout the story, ”adds Agustín.

“This comedy already premiered with another cast and it worked. And audiences that have already seen it may want to come and see how we do it and also add a younger audience. I think there will be a mix, ”adds the actor.

They have abandoned other projects and have juggled to reconcile work and family (Mery has two girls; Tomás is also the father of two children), because “the truth” is that they have a great desire to do this piece.
