Rock in Rio Lisboa received 137,000 people in its first weekend

The Rock in Rio festival, one of the biggest musical performances in Portugal, has returned to trample Lisbon after four years and received 137,000 people in its first weekendaccording to the data released by the organization.

During its premiere this weekend – June 18 and 19 – international artists such as Muse, Blacked Eyed Peas, Liam Gallagher or the Brazilian Ivete Sangalo, the Spanish Izal and Miss Cafeína and the Portuguese Eurovision The Black Mamba.

The return of the festival to the Portuguese capital was also noticed in digital traffic, with more than 132,000 visits to the website, more than 18,000 downloads of the official application of Rock in Rio and more than five million impressions on social networks.

The party will continue next weekend -25 and 26 June- in Bela Vista Park, the venue for the festival through which Duran Duran, A-Ha, Post Malone, Jason Derulo or the Brazilian Anittaamong others.

Portuguese talent will go hand in hand José Cid, winner of a Latin Grammywith a special concert to celebrate its 80th birthday.

The Rock in Rio, of Brazilian origin, returned to Lisbon this 2022 with its ninth edition after four years and after the cancellation of the 2020 program due to the pandemic.

For those who love figures and statistics, a comparative fact to take into consideration is that in his last meeting in Lisbon, 278,000 people participated in 2018 during the four days of celebration.

Eco-responsible and much more than music

Following a trend that is fortunately getting stronger in the tour industry – the upcoming visit of Coldplay with their 10 River, as well as Primavera Sound Bs. As from November there are very close examples of this – sustainability will be another factor to be taken into consideration at the festival.

The Rock in Rio Lisboa organization will promote the non-generation of food waste (They will donate food scraps and separate used cooking oil, among other measures) and try to raise awareness of misplaced waste.

The organization recently announced a deal with United Nations and Lisbon City Council for Urban Art Gallery artists of the capital paint six murals in which they address issues such as nature conservation, food and inclusion.

Overall they will be 350 square meters of paintings that can be admired in the City of Rock (venue where the concerts will be held) and which will seek to convey the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

When the Rock in Rio ends, the murals will enter the Solidarity Auction of the eventwhere autographed guitars by artists who have performed on stage in this edition and footballs autographed by the Portuguese league will also be auctioned.

According to the data of the organizers, this festival, held in Lisbon since 2004 it has received more than 2,570,000 spectators and has hosted approx 1,000 artistsbetween bands, DJs, dancers and street performers.
