The play begins with the character of Jasmine, who found on Facebook a person with whom she never really had an affinity, but with whom she decides to show up in the middle of the night. There follows a series of coincidences that will change the lives of the characters.explains Catherine Léger.

To change life, which is a comedy about the quest for happiness, stars Ariel Ifergan, Marilou Morin, Étienne Pilon and Mélanie St-Laurent. Sébastien Gauthier directs it.

I wanted to direct characters who feel like they’re following the instructions and yet aren’t happy. They are a little frustrated with this idea of happiness that we are constantly being sold, sometimes very subtly and sometimes a little lesssummarizes Catherine Léger.

From summer theater to slightly quirky humor

It was the Petit Théâtre du Nord that approached Catherine Léger to ask her to write a play, while giving her carte blanche. Rather than leaving with a very definite idea in mind, as she often does, the author claims to have let herself be carried away by the pleasure of the dialogues and the characters.

Whether To change life fits well in line with what is called summer theatre, that is to say light plays aimed mainly at making people laugh, the author affirms that her creation has a more dramatic dimension.

I always want to write comedy, it doesn’t take much to give me the taste for that. But it’s a bit more quirky humor than a typical summer comedy. There is also a character who has suicidal thoughts, another who manages all kinds of addictionsshe explains. So I would say it’s a comedy with a bit more serious background.

To change lifea creation of the Petit Théâtre du Nord, is presented from June 23 to August 27 at the Center de création de Boisbriand, a former church converted into a place of creation since last summer.
