Sergio Dalma is one of the most successful artists of the song and the pop genre in Spain, not only for his iconic voice, but also because he is characterized by a closeness, humility and transparency that have led him to remain current in popularity and data of sale. .

Happiness is the name of their 21st album and contains an entire declaration of intent that claim the joy of the little things, in contrast to the climate of tension so widespread in the world today.

So, after a few years of forced absence due to the pandemic, Sergio Dalma returns to Argentina in November to present his new album live and also celebrate his 30-year career. He will not only be at the Buenos Aires Luna Park, but he will also sing in Córdoba, Rio Cuarto, Rosario and Mendoza.

in the meeting

Unlike most artists who take their first notes on the phone or with a zoom when releasing their albums, Sergio Dalma personally came to Buenos Aires to promote his November recitals.

“Going on a promotional trip – he says – is something that we have always liked to do, and we are having fun, because we have not been here for almost three years, due to everything related to the pandemic. We have been locked up for a long time and in the fear that this could not be repeated again and that only streaming shows would be made “.

-In your case, have you done streaming shows?

-No. It was just a couple of little things. At one point my rep called and told me about it, but I told him if it was the only option maybe it was time to hang up the boots. I’m one of those who sing while watching people.

-How did you deal with the lockdown?

-For me it was therapeutic to prepare a new job. Like many people, I have missed a lot of things that I didn’t care about, which were from day to day. The album helped me and the songs were very vital, to the point where I told the writers to send me a ballad because the fans would kill me. If a few years ago it wouldn’t have been so important if I had given it this title (Happiness) on a record, but now we have to take on the role of spreading just that.

-What was your first show after imprisonment?

-Barcelona, with everyone still wearing the mask. It was very strange because we were all scared and you noticed many people crying with emotion, or many who were absent because they didn’t dare to go. And sometimes they were matinee shows. I liked it but it was difficult. The tour itself has been for the past couple of months, and now it’s all outdoors, although I prefer theaters and closed rooms.

the new album

– Did you record the voices at home?

-Yup. I admit that I had to set up a mini-studio at home to be able to record the voices, which is very new to me because I was used to receiving the songs, listening to them at home and then going to the studio. But now I was at home, in my pajamas and rereading books, and all of a sudden I said to myself “Now is the time to record a song”. So I lived with those songs and mixed them in a different way.

-The album begins with the words “Despite everything”. It doesn’t have to be random.

-Well, yes, because despite everything we continue to struggle and we continue to get excited and we think that music makes everyday life easier for people, as has been shown in the pandemic.

-Now singles are released, like six decades ago. Do you prefer to show your songs on albums?

-I have always worked like this, with a record with a number of songs that convince me. Each album has something of you; It’s a small x-ray. But it is true that now they work with simple ones. Indeed, we are now preparing an unreleased work in Catalan, and we are not ruling out the release of an EP or something else. I do not know. Obviously everything is changing from the days we were recording vinyl, and it’s nice to go a little bit in the flow of what is being done.

The Argentine public

-Describe what your relationship with the Argentine public is like after so many visits.

-Wherever you are, whatever you do on social networks, there is always someone from Argentina present, no matter what time it is. This shows how loyal a following is. I really admire that loyalty after so many years. Also, after dance close I spent 15 years without coming to the country because it wasn’t part of the company’s plans. And it was to rediscover myself and recover all that we lost in those years. I am very grateful because the public has always been very present.

-And it’s not just Buenos Aires.

-Exactly. This morning we discussed the fate of this work, where we visit places that perhaps would not have been otherwise.

-What was everyone’s first visit?

-It was a promotional trip at the time dance close. We went to Córdoba, to the Badía e program rhythm of the night with Tinelli. But the real shows I haven’t done up to the topic The world. And my best memories of 30 years of career are of that tour in Argentina. It was great.
