Cuban trumpeter, pianist and composer Arturo Sandoval, a legend of Latin jazz with a strong Afro influence, will arrive in Argentina to perform on Saturday 13 August at the Teatro Ópera Orbis. He is currently 72 years old.

Arturo Sandoval was born in Artemisa, a town on the outskirts of Havana, Cuba, on November 6, 1949. He began studying classical trumpet at the age of twelve, but soon captured the enthusiasm of the jazz world.

Founder together with saxophonist Paquito D’Rivera and pianist Chucho Valdés of the Irakere group, one of the greatest expressions of Cuban jazz, Sandoval left the band and the island to go into exile in the United States, like D’Rivera.

Once installed, and as a protégé of the legendary Dizzy Gillespie, the musician connected the North American jazz tradition with his Caribbean impulse and shaped a career in which he won 10 Grammy Awards, half a dozen Billboard Awards and an Emmy Award, the latter for the film about his life: For love or for country, with Andy Garcia.

In addition to Latin jazz, Sandoval is also a renowned classical music pianist and composer, and his work also visits other genres such as pop and bolero.

Sandoval is also a renowned classical musician who performs regularly with leading symphony orchestras from around the world. He composed his Concerto for trumpet and orchestrawhich can be heard Arturo Sandoval: The classic album.

He has also performed with the most important orchestras in the country and abroad and recorded the Trumpet Concerto by John Williams with the London Symphony Orchestra. His classical art has earned him the respect and admiration of the most prestigious conductors, composers and symphony orchestras in the world.

Arturo Sandoval’s versatility can be heard in recordings with everyone from Dizzy Gillespie, Woody Shaw, Michel Legrand, Josh Groban, Tony Bennett, Bill Conti and Satan Gettz to Frank Sinatra, Paul Anka, Rod Stewart and Alicia Keys, just to name some. . He has performed with John Williams, The Boston Pops and at the Super Bowl alongside Tony Bennett and Patti LaBelle.

From 2018 it is his latest album, Latest duetswhich brought him together in several duets with Stevie Wonder, Al Jarreau, Plácido Domingo, Prince Royce, Alejandro Sanz, Pharell Williams, Ariana Grande and Josh Groban, among others.
