Pain invaded the atmosphere of music in general, and the blues in particular, on Tuesday after learning about death of Gustavo Villegashistorical pianist of memphis the blues who for several years was part of the band The Blues Machine.

The musician, who was 65, had been living in Mar del Plata for some time. The causes of his death have not been specified. “Farewell to a great pianist and person. Have a good trip Gustavo Villegas. RIP Memphis La Blusera ‘Always’ present ”, was the farewell that Memphis La Blusera dedicated to her on its social networks.

During the first five years of the band historically led by Adrián Otero, Villegas was the pianist. In that period he recorded the first album “Alma Bajo la Rain”, moreover he was able to accompany great American blues musicians such as: Eddie King, Ollan Bell, Zakiya Hooker, Lorenzo Thompson and JC Smith.

In 2017 he joined La Blues Machine (composed by Pedro Peña on guitar and vocals, José Pepe Marín on sax, Damián Miranda on bass and Santiago Masarone on drums) not only as keyboardist but also as artistic producer of the second album of the combo “The Angel Cup.

The 10th anniversary of the death of Adrián Otero

On June 12, ten years have passed since Otero’s tragic death. The Memphis singer La Blusera lost his life after being involved in an accident with his vehicle on the Rosario-Córdoba highway, near the city of Ballesteros, 173 kilometers from the provincial capital of Córdoba.

His Honda lost control and crashed in the middle of the highway. The 53-year-old musician led Memphis until 2008, a group he has been a part of for nearly 30 years since his debut on stage in 1978 and in which his particular voice was a seal.

Adrián Otero’s life was crossed by music, blues and in particular by his group: Memphis la Blusera. However, in 2008 he overturned the scoreboard and decided to leave the band he had led for nearly 30 years. One of the causes that prompted him to make that decision must be sought a few months earlier, in November 2007 when he was hospitalized to fight his addictions.

After the disbandment of the band that created the classics “La Bifurcada” or “Moscato, pizza y fainá”, Otero launched his solo career and in August 2008 presented the only album of this phase: Imán.

In 2009, in an interview with Clarín, he explained how he felt after leaving Memphis. “In recent years we have been working a lot on parties where people went to dance. The shows weren’t disappointing. If you listen you will see that we have included one blues per record; the rest was pastiche with or without blues. The blues, for me, was a tangential thing. I am from literature ”, she expressed.

In 2012 the band also lost another of its founders, because Emilio Villanueva, known as “il sax de La Paternal”, died in November of heart failure.
