Fabio Alberto once he told us: “I don’t know what a vocation is, which I envy those who have it. I’m not Andrea del Boca. What my old man taught me was to do well what I want to do, to be”.
And he added: “I think I’ve been pretty consistent. I’ve never done anything I didn’t want. I pride myself on two stupid things: I’ve never gone to Saturday bus pull the cap to win a car, or go as a critic TVR “.
Saturday (without bondi) we will find him on stage with the musician Paolo Oliva in a multipurpose show where his own album will be presented From a distanceand the other will show your character gallery.

Fabio speaks
-What do you do while living in Punta del Este?
-I live near Pueblo Eden, in the countryside. 80 inhabitants. They are 45 kilometers from Punta del Este and 30 from Solanas.
-What are you doing now?
-I have a restaurant in my house, behind closed doors. They connect me on Instagram @ choto.uy , and for them I prepare the whole circus. Guest, I cook and it’s almost a show.
-What are you cooking?
I’ve been cooking all my life. I make wraps, stews, osubuco, braised bondiola, risotto. I learned how to make cheese …
-Are you married with children?
–separate with children. I have two who grew up and live and study in Buenos Aires. I live here as a couple.
-Do Argentines like González Oro and Susana Giménez go to your restaurant?
-No, no …. hahaha. They go elsewhere, it seems to me. Argentines and the people of Montevideo come in search of another type of tourism.
Fabio Alberti with Diego Capusotto in “Todo por 2 pesos”, in 2000.
– Are you also Fabio Alberti in Uruguay?
-In the document, yes, but I’m not recognized anywhere. Nobody knows me, even though people know a lot more than they think. Here in Uruguay you saw America at that time Cha Cha Cha or All for 2 pesos and also RSMwhen he worked with Mariana Fabbiani.
-How is the musical project you have with Pablo Oliva?
-Pablo is an amazing artist who has put together a very powerful band with Argentine musicians. We are neighbors, we are ten minutes apart and we have become friends. We did a similar show in Montevideo. They are like side shows, there is no interaction on stage. Music and humor. I start with half an hour of Boluda Total and then I introduce the band.
– So you’re not retired.
-There is no way! I make introductions in Punta del Este, where they call me from one bowling alley or the other. I also spent two and a half months recording Montevideo President, under the direction of Armando Bo. Opens in September on Amazon. It is a proposal on the World Cups of ’78 and ’82. Is called President, by Joao Havelange, former FIFA boss. I play Vice Admiral Lacoste, Havelange’s right-hand man.
-Was the famous match against Peru been organized?
-Yes, of course, there is talk of that, of corruption in football, in FIFA. There are actors from all over the world. For example, there is Andrés Parra, the one who played Pablo Escobar.
– How long have you not lived on humor?
-I live on many things. If you only know how to behave, you are useless. Here I learned to milk, to mend a wire, to cultivate, to cut wood. I came in 2018, before the pandemic. Back in Argentina, she rented and owned a hamburger stand. Here I am in a country house, rustic, a beautiful farm.

-Once you said: “I don’t know what a vocation is” and you made food trucks fashionable.
-Yes, that was it. I am a food truck pioneer in Argentina. I’ve had it for four years with a burger stand in San Isidro. And here I have a musical duet with Maxi Tissot. Soon we will be the opening act for Zambayonny in Montevideo.

-Is it true that “Peter Capusotto and his videos” was about to be with you: “Fabio Alberti and his videos”?
-True. Pedro Saborido was the manager of the idea, he called me and suggested that I do a music video program with the characters. I told him no because I didn’t have time.
-You are like Gustavo Lutteral when he turned down “VideoMatch”!
I am very happy with my decision. And I said no secret in his eyes. He called me Campanella’s producer. I think they had in mind for me the character who later played José Luis Gioia. The producer told me: “Look, Darín is here …”. That argument broke my balls and I told him: “If Darín is there, not even for sticks. “I also said no to a project that Viggo Mortensen ended up doing, We all have a plan. Ana Piterbarg, the director, told me that she had thought of the role for me.
Do you say it with pride?
-Yes, I laugh. Now I want to do a Uruguayan western. I have already written a few chapters.
-What do you think of Will Smith and his famous comedian slap?
-I never quite understood what happened, but in the end he came out to apologize. Humor must be irreverent. All themes can be used and ridiculed. If we’re talking about humor as an art form, there shouldn’t be any cancellation. Neither in music, nor in painting, nor in humor.
– Is humor always right? I think of Galician jokes, but also of sketches like Capusotto’s “Padre Progressista”.
-Certain markings of the features of a person with a mocking look, will always be, in quotation marks, a little fascist. But not necessarily: Peperino Pómoro makes fun of the Church, of the right. And Boluda Total is the same concept: an establishment person who hosts a TV show. I’m more left handed than I look!
Alfredo Casero and Fabio Alberti at the presentation of “Cha3Dmubi” at Konex / Graphpress, 2015
-A few months ago, Alfredo Casero said he wanted to do a new season of “Cha Cha Chá”. Were you updated?
-He can’t wait for a theatrical show Cha Cha Cha. We also recently met with Alakran, the three of us. But now Alfredo is on tour in Europe.
-No…
-Yes, it has functions outside. That’s how Alfredo is, those strange things come to mind and one doubts, discovers it and it’s true: he is in Spain as he once sang in Japan.
-Casero admitted on his latest one-man show: “Sometimes I feel a little disgusted.” It is as if he had gone from the irrational to the reactionary.
-Your political opinion is made known on television programs and in your networks. The shows are diverse and continues to be driven by absurd situations. Alfredo has a grid, not a script. You never know where things come from. Not even he knows. He rides what comes to mind.
-This is his genius.
-It is amazing, yes, the ability and talent he has, the ability to touch all the fibers … tremendous! He makes me laugh a lot and I think he himself is amused by his political position and all those tirades. On the day of the fist at the table, in Majul’s program, it was very clear that he is genuine and does what he does where his ass is sung.
Why does humor disappear from television?
-It was atomized, now there is humor everywhere and if you put TN on and you see Nelson Castro, you will see that there is a comedian there. There is no longer a need for a show with expensive sets, producers, writers. Also, the humor has gone to networks, memes, and platforms.
Pablo Oliva speaks
Paolo Oliva
He is a musician. He has lived in Uruguay for seven years. He was the lead singer of a national rock group called Gazpacho.
-What is an Argentine rock musician looking for when he goes to live in Uruguay? Generally it’s the other way around, like NTVG, La Vela Puerca and El Cuarteto de Nos.
-I left when the Macri government started.
-Ideological exile?
-I left because I have a family in Uruguay and my wife graduated there. I live in a countryside area, near Fabio Alberti. This is how we met and became very good friends.
-You played in Gazpacho.
-Yup. He was the singer. We released five albums, we were at EMI, Los Pericos’ Juanchi Baleirón produced us, we toured Argentina, we played a lot, we went to Chile, Peru and they nominated us as best new band on MTV. Fifteen years of madness and we broke up, but in 2019 we came back and made a Trastienda. We were about to do a sixth album and the pandemic has just caught us. Now I am alone and I have launched Distancewhich is what I will present this weekend.
The cover of 2 the distance “by Pablo Oliva with Chico César.
– “Distance” for Uruguay, or is it something more ontological?
-Because the production took place during a pandemic and Darryl Jones, bassist of the Rolling Stones, participated in the recording. Darryl was invited by the production company and said, “Let me hear”. He listened to the material and then accepted.
-This speaks very highly of you.
-Well, it’s also true that Darryl should have been half-farted because of the pandemic.
