Movies’ scariest orphan returns to the big screen. Thirteen years after the premiere of the horror thriller Ester, the second part is revealed this Tuesday in a trailer. Entitled Esther 2: the originswill land in French cinemas on August 17.
As its title suggests, this feature film by William Brent Bell (director of With the devil inside Y The boy) will relate events prior to those of the first film. Actress Isabelle Fuhrman, now 25, will once again lend her features to the little girl.
Same son, different family
According to the trailer, Esther 2 will focus on a couple (played by Julia Stiles and Rossif Sutherland) whose daughter Esther has disappeared. When the police return her to him four years later, they attribute her difficulty adjusting to the trauma of separation. Unless the boy they found is hiding a secret… A poster was also unveiled.
Released in 2009, Ester spoke of the adoption of this same child from Eastern Europe by an American family. Very soon, the parents (played by Vera Farmiga and Peter Sarsgaard) noticed strange and aggressive behavior in their new daughter. The investigation into her origins led them to a chilling discovery, which viewers still remember. Despite mixed reviews on its release, Ester grossed $80 million at the worldwide box office, four times what it cost to produce, as reported variety.
Esther 2 was announced in 2020. According to TermExpert makeup and optical effects were used to help Isabelle Fuhrman find her role as a child. After the success ofEsterthe latter continued her film career, especially in The Hunger Games.
