Argentine director Mariano Cohn will be part of the main jury of the 79th edition of the Venice Film Festival, which will take place between August 31 and September 10.

The American actress Julianne Moore will preside over the international jury of “La Mostra” and the Spanish filmmaker and screenwriter will also participate Rodrigo Sorogoyenin addition to the British writer of Japanese origin kazuo ishiguroNobel Prize for Literature in 2017.

Moore, who won an Oscar for her role in Always Alice (2014), a BAFTA and an Emmy, was chosen by the board of directors of the Venice Biennale, which accepted the proposal of Alberto Barbera, director of the festival, the organization reports today.

The festival highlighted the “versatility and numerous memorable film and television performances” of Moore, the first American actress to win the best acting awards at the Berlin Film Festivals (The hours2002), Cannes (Maps for the stars, 2014) and Venice (far from heaven2002).

Moore, born in 1960 in North Carolina (United States), has won the most important film industry awards. The actress has also starred in box office hits such as The hunger games or the second installment of Jurassic Park.

The judge

The Venice 79 Jury will award Golden Lion for Best Film, Silver Lion – Grand Jury Award, Silver Lion – Best Director Award, Volpi Cup Best Actress, Volpi Cup Best Actor, Special Jury Award, Best Screenplay Award and Marcello Mastroianni Award for an emerging young actor or actress.

Moore will preside over an international jury composed of Sorogoyen, Cohn, Ishiguro, the Italian director and screenwriter Leonardo Di Costanzo, the French director Audrey Diwan and the Iranian actress Leila Hatami.

Sorogoyen received the Goya in 2019 for Best Director and Screenplay for The Kingdom, as well as other major awards for Mother, Stockholm Y God forgive uswhile Cohn has 13 years behind him directing hits like The illustrious citizen, the man next doorwhich awarded him prizes such as Goya for the best Ibero-American film.

Cohn, along with his creative duo Gastón Duprat, attended the festival last year with the film official competition with Penelope Cruz and Antonio Banderas.

In Cohn and Duprat’s latest film, Banderas and Martínez play two actors who conceive their profession in totally opposite ways and end up working with eccentric director Lola Cuevas (in charge of the Spanish actress), which leads to an ego struggle encouraged by the peculiar character of the director.

As for the film, the duo that since 2008 has generated titles such as The artist, The man next door Y Honey, I’m going to buy cigarettes and come backamong others, he revealed it official competition comes from the call of the protagonists themselves, who had seen their work inside the distinguished citizen (played by Martinez) and wanted to “make a movie for fun”.
