Last night there was an exclusive preview of leather of Judas, with Susana Giménez, for the Club members of the Uruguayan newspaper El País, in the Enjoy Punta del Este room. The performances will begin tonight.
The preview was a success with audiences and critics alike, with the theater full and the cast satisfied with the result of this sort of “dress rehearsal” or exclusive first performance.

The 2015 version
on the construction site leather of Judas, already seen at Lola Membrives in 2015, two parallel things were happening: one, the show itself, with an impressive production and a cast at the level of a comedy of this style. And on the other there was Susana, who was the leading actress but also the diva that everyone knows. She, Come on, the one on TV, the one in the papers, is the one they were about to see.

In this case, her character, Marion, resembles her (a happy and effective idea of her producer, Gustavo Yankelevich, in the choice of the work). What’s better then: the actress with a role that suits her has the audience at her feet. And she was in her sauce, like a fish in water. Knowing that the first pout was followed by applause.
This is what happens with the charisma of some characters. Marion is ideal to show, from that mask, some of her characteristics: talkative, funny, spontaneous. When she wants, sour and, when necessary, naive but not so much.
Susana has allowed herself the bitch (which she never does on television) because the theater has the complicity of the ritual within four walls, even when there are a thousand people on the other side.
And of course she took advantage of all the winks that the text gives her to play with the imagery that exists about her. “I am no one, I do not exist. I am in the shadow of my husband”, said Marion at the antipodes of Susana. And later her character confessed: “I’m afraid of not being loved”, which perhaps, even in divas, is a fear shared with the audience that (ad) watches her.

After 24 years without going on stage, Susana implanted herself in that opera as if a couple of weeks had passed. Play the game she knows best and enjoys, at ease with her, in a spectacular setting, created by Alberto Negrín, and a wardrobe very much in line with her style.
The plot of the comedy
The work of the Frenchmen Pierre Barillet and Jean Pierre Grédy fits him perfectly. Susana knew how to shine but without dazzling or overshadowing her castmates, at the time Antonio Grimau, Mónica Antonópulos, Alberto Fernández de Rosa, David Masajnik, Goly Turilli and Marcelo Serre. And they didn’t even hesitate to share the stage with “the” diva: thanks to the director Arturo Puig who was able to make them show grace and skill in favor of history.

The character of Susana is that of an incisive woman, with a great sense of humor, quick, biting, straightforward, direct, wise, naive, one of the fullest characters in one of the greatest comedies in the history of French theater, which she husband cheats on a younger woman. Deception that, obviously, the character of Susana Giménez immediately realizes.
