Queenmania is not dead in Britain. the scrapbook greatest hits, by Queen, released in 1981 (and reissued in 2011) and dotted with their greatest hits, has just surpassed the 7 million album sales mark in Britain. This is the first record to pass this threshold, in the country. The album had already broken the record of 6 million sales in 2014.
Guitarist Brian May welcomed this “happy news”. “No album has done this before in history”, he rejoiced on Instagram thanking the public, in a short video full of humor. “The British public and their infinite good taste have made this album the best-selling in history,” added the drummer. Roger Taylor, declaring himself “touched and honored”.
Bohemian Rhapsody, we will Rock You, We are the champions, don’t stop me now… we no longer need to present the titles that appear on this album by the group once led by Freddie Mercury, and who now lives through the voice of Adam Lambert, the singer who has accompanied Brian May and Roger Taylor since 2012.
The band, who opened the festivities at the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Grand Concert last June, are currently on the road with the Rhapsody Tour. Queen passed through Paris at the Accor Arena on July 13.
A film of their London concert from London’s O2 Arena, entitled Rhapsody over LondonIt will also air on the Kwiskee platform.
