“There have been consultations with the UK government and the BBC. We have received assurances from the BBC and the European Broadcasting Union that they will host Eurovision ‘On behalf of Ukraine’ (…) I think the experience of the BBC will make it possible to present Ukraine at the highest level,” Ukrainian Culture Minister Oleksandr Tkatchenko said on Telegram.

“Everything will be done so that in Britain we see Ukrainian landscapes and listen to Ukrainian narratives. I think that the BBC’s experience will help to present Ukraine at the highest level,” he said and underlines.

Security conditions

In June, the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), which organizes the event, considered that the security conditions were not met for Ukraine to organize the competition and opened negotiations with the United Kingdom, which came second in Turin in May.

Ukraine, whose territory in the east and south is 20% occupied by Russia, which regularly bombs the rest of its territory, initially denounced the decision to withdraw the celebration of the next edition and called for additional negotiations.

London had expressed reluctance to deprive Ukraine of the event, followed by tens of millions of lovers of pop and glitter.

The Ukrainian group Kalush Orchestra won the final of the competition in May with the song Stephanie mixing hip-hop and traditional music, a very symbolic victory in the midst of the Russian invasion.

The British Sam Ryder and his title astronaut got second place.
