Without a doubt, Chita is one of the best voices of her generation, with a special ability to appeal to R&B or soul in any song she launches across the broad spectrum of pop and urban music.

Her appearance caught on in 2018 with a self-titled EP and later released singles. Today Francisca “Chita” Gil is preparing a special recital in which she will tour her career, featuring new versions of her hits, and presenting singles from this new phase which will lead to an album before the end of the year. The show will be this Saturday 30th at the Vórterix Theater.

Like his peers, video releases are his forte, in addition to posts on his Instagram account, where he posts news, such as the recent Dwell or before with It was nota venture with Ca7riel, or as he will soon be doing with the work he has done with Spanish producers Choclock, Lex Luthorz and Dano Ziontifik.

Live, Chita has already toured locations in Buenos Aires, Mendoza, Rosario and Córdoba, as well as London and New York, as well as a large audience at festivals such as Buena Vibra, La Nueva Generación and Futurock. She also participated in a special show at the Teatro Colón for the inauguration of the latest Ciudad Emergente, where she sang Advice and oath with orchestra.

Sitting in her production company’s office last week, Chita says she’s rehearsing and shooting a new video. “This moment is not calm,” she says.

As for the new album, he says that the second early cut will be released before the recital at Vórterix and that the idea is to release the album in November. “We already have the songs, but we have to finish them. I’m working with Benja López Barrios, an Argentine musician who does a lot of R&B, and some Spanish producers. It feels different to have several producers and not just one for the whole album.”

-It’s more relaxed to release several singles because you don’t have to look for one that represents the entire album.

-I like it as it is. Exactly. It takes some of the pressure off you and doesn’t all fall on one theme that has to encompass everything. The previous single (Dwele) is a very R&B uptempo, where we wanted to go back to basics and make it clear from the production and the lyrics. What comes now is more contemporary, higher and more moving, with elements borrowed from other genres, something very interesting.

-R & B is more natural to you than the trap, for example.

-Yup. It is where I feel most comfortable. One is marked by the genre he grew up in, and mine was R&B. In between I did a lot of other things, but the melodic thing suits me more.

What do you like about the outside? It can be something classic like Aretha or something new like Lisso.

-Both are great! For this record I’m listening to an American artist doing contemporary R&B, Ty $ Dolla Sign. He is very good, he has a lot of data on his records and it is very interesting to study him. I used to listen to everything … at one point I had a lot of Erykah Badu and then I went to jazz classics like Ella Fitzgerald.

-What can you expect from Vórterix’s repertoire?

-We are putting together a 360 degree show, with everything contemplated. The new songs will be next to each other, for example. For me it is the show that I like best because of the list of themes, with a common thread. I hope they get it the same way.

-What do you remember singing at the Colón?

– It was amazing. It was a shame to only be able to do one song. It was a unique experience. I fell in love with playing with an orchestra, which I had only done once with Alejandro Terán. It’s a new love that I have.

-Your career was going very well, on the rise, and suddenly everything stopped due to the pandemic. Do you feel you have to start over or was it to go back to where you were?

– A little bit I had to row again. On the other hand, at last year’s show at Konex, which was the first since the pandemic, even though I felt like I was starting over, a lot of tickets were sold. This gave me the idea that there was already some previous work. It was a pleasant surprise. Gradually, everything fell into place. I also think it all depends on the songs one is releasing.

Let’s go back to the beginning of everything. How did your first song come out?

-The first thing I recorded was on my computer because I was studying at the School of Contemporary Music and they taught me how to use a recording system, so I made a song almost as a practical task. That demo of Take me down I uploaded it to Soundcloud and it was later part of my first EP.

-Which musicians do you feel closest to, both in terms of friendship and generational?

-Who I have more feats with is Kato (Ca7riel) and also with Larita (Lara 91k). At the time of my first EP I feel like I’m close to Zoe Gotusso, Juan Ingaramo and Knowing Russia.
