The image returned by the mirror
In an interview for the British newspaper GuardianEnglund, who is 75, talked early in the shoot about the impressive makeup required by Freddy’s character and what it did to him. And to illustrate this, he told an anecdote that happened during the filming.
While they were putting on his make-up, in that long process that required him to transform his face into that of the fearsome and hideous killerEnglund took the opportunity to close his eyes and take a nap.
And he tells what happened next: “On the set it was very quiet. There was a table, a plastic chair and a mirror with small lamps around it: the classic make-up room. The lights were dim as I took the opportunity to do a nap, around 4 in the morning, with my head resting on a rolled up towel so as not to ruin my makeup. ”
Growing the suspense, he added: “I was waiting to be called to the set and I heard a knock on the door. When I sat downI saw this disfigured face looking at me in the mirror. the shock made me jump. I raised my hand and realized: ‘My God, it’s my reflection! ‘ But it was such an extraordinary moment that I still have it in my nightmares. “

an icon of terror
Nightmare deep in the nighthas imposed the menacing presence of the character of Freddy who gains his power by appearing in the dream world of the young people he terrifies.
The figure of disfigured man wearing a red and green t-shirt, hat and glove with knivesgave him international fame as an Englund who, in his real life, is the opposite of the character.
In Nightmare… several teenagers suffer from nightmares in which Freddy appears to them, a serial killer who in real life killed several children and teenagers; and that he got out of prison for technical reasons.
Until one day the parents of the victims burned it, in revenge. But Freddy vows to return to continue his killing spree. Finally, one of the young people manages to get Freddy out of the dream and take him to the real world to finish it off.
With this character, Englund has become the new star of horror movies, something that hasn’t happened since the 1960s, with characters like Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing. And he was one of the few actors to make eight consecutive films in a saga, between 1984 and 2003.
