Lars von Trier was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, Zentropa announced. The production company, which von Trier co-founded in 1992 with producer Peter Aalbæk Jensen, said the director is “in good spirits and looking after his symptoms” as he continues to complete. The new season’s cast includes Mikael Persbrandt, Lars Mikkelsen, Nikolaj Lie Kaas, Tuva Novotny and David Dencik, with Alexander Skarsgård and David Dencik as guest stars.

Von Trier co-wrote The Exodus of the Kingdom with Niels Vorsel. The show’s previous two seasons were written in advance. Von Trier’s other credits include The house Jack built (2018), nymphomaniac (2014), meloncholy (2011) and Dogville (2004). His 2000 musical Dancer in the Dark (Dancer in the dark), played by Bjork, won the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival.

The Danish director has been banned for seven years since Cannes Film Festival in 2011 to testify at a press conference from melancholiesbecause he “sympathized” with the Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler.
