Unfilteredthe satire of the super-rich and luxury that won the Palme d’Or at the 75th Cannes Film Festival last May, is revealed in a first trailer, released Tuesday by the film’s US distributor, Neon.
Unfiltered follows the adventure of Yaya and Carl, a couple of models and influencers on vacation on a luxury cruise ship that ends in disaster. With this film, director Ruben Östlund offers an uncompromising critique of capitalism and its excesses. Launch scheduled in France on September 28.
Unfilteredbaptized sadness triangle in English-speaking countries, it has divided criticism. After Play (2011), snow therapy (2014) and Square (2017), Ruben Östlund continues in Unfiltered dissect social conventions, petty cowardice and moral dilemmas.
The second Palme d’Or for its director
With Unfilteredthe Swedish Ruben Östlund was able to win his second Palma, five years later Square. At 48, he thus joined the tight-knit club of double webbing, which includes the Dardenne brothers and Ken Loach.
“The entire jury was extremely shocked by this film,” announced Vincent Lindon, president of the jury. “When we started this film, we had only one goal: to try to make a film that interests the public and makes them think provocatively,” said the Swede upon receiving his award.
