Ozzy Osbourne appeared singing live with Tony Iommi, just weeks after a major operation

Legendary singer Ozzy Osbourne made a surprise appearance at the Commonwealth Games Closing Ceremonyin his hometown of Birmingham.

He only sang one song, but it was one of his biggest hits, paranoidY he did it together with his longtime partner of Black Sabbathguitarist Tony Iommi, with whom he hadn’t played live since the last Black Sabbath concert in 2017.

Moving on to Instagram last week, he first shared historical footage of Paranoid over footage from the Games in progress. “This was featured in today’s #CommonwealthGames. I really wish I was there with all of you. Just great for Birmingham! ”She wrote.

A few days later, Osbourne himself appeared at the games playing the immortal paranoidaccompanied by Black Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi, drummer Tommy Clufetos and bassist Adam Wakeman.

“I love you Birmingham, it’s good to be back!” He said before closing his set.

Osbourne later took to Instagram again to share a clip of the performance: “What a way to end it all!” adding: “Thank you Birmingham. Thank you, thank you, thank you!”.

Unusually mocked by commentators all night, Osbourne and Black Sabbath’s performance capped off a musical extravaganza that saw the participation of numerous local artists including Apache Indian, Beverley Knight, Dexys, Goldie, Jacob Banks, Jaykae, Jorja Smith, Laura Mvula, Ash, Mahalia, Musical Youth, Neelam Gill, Panjabi MC, Raza Hussain, Talulah-Eve, The Selecter and UB40.

The finale also included a sequence of the upcoming play, Peaky Blinders: Thomas Shelby’s Redemptionwith a piece just commissioned by Laura Mvula, inspired by the hit Right hand red by Nick Cave, which is used as the theme song for the hit TV series.

The next Commonwealth Games will take place in Victoria, Australia. For its part, Birmingham is one of the cities in contention to host the Eurovision 2023 final.

Ozzy’s health

Specific details of Ozzy’s recent operation were not released, though in May he said he was awaiting neck surgery because he couldn’t walk properly and needed physical therapy every morning.

Apparently, it appears that Ozzy is slowly recovering and is expected to continue his “No More Tours 2” tour in 2023, delayed by the pandemic.

At 73, this legendary character continues to arouse the euphoria of millions of people. Ozzy has not been on stage since 2020 due to a neck injury immediately following an accident and Parkinson’s affecting him.

On June 16 this year, the rock star left the Los Angeles hospital where he had been operated on Monday. He left in a wheelchair, wearing black jogging pants and a long-sleeved shirt.

The family did not provide details on the type of operation, but yesterday morning his wife Sharon said that “Ozzy is feeling fine” and posted on Twitter an old photo of him singing when he was very young.
