Word more, word less, a dialogue between Turbo (Adriano Suar) and La Loba (Pilar Gamboa) defines where the path will go 30 nights with my ex. “How hard it is to be with you,” Turbo tells the ex about him. “Do you know how difficult it is to be like me?” You get it as an answer.

When Adrián Suar chose to move away from blunt comedy and try to get closer to drama (the day you love me, 2003, with Leticia Bredice) the result at the box office was not so favorable. With A boyfriend for my wife he was right in both shots, because the film with Valeria Bertuccelli it was an audience success and perhaps his best film. Since then they have spent two decades in the cinema playing a role that, more or less, was the same, and always oriented towards comedy.

And now that he has decided to launch himself into film directing, with 30 nights with my ex Combining comedy and drama, Suar travels the highway along the downtown street. A little more left – where the fastest cars go, let’s say, with the speed of comedy – than right, where the path is slower, in honor of the drama.

That is: it is quite far from Crazy heart (2021), the film that could not be released in theaters due to the pandemic and was seen on Netflix, and has points in common with the day you love me.

Rocío Hernández is the daughter of El Turbo and La Loba (Pilar Gamboa).

El Turbo, his character, has been separated from La Loba, Andrea, for six years. He hasn’t seen her for three years, and agrees to meet the director of the clinic where his ex is hospitalized for psychiatric problems, while he can’t stop answering his cell phone, as he has a financier who buys and sells dollars and lends money.

And he is surprised that the woman asks Andrea to spend the 30 days of the title with him and with his daughter in common (Rocío Hernández), as an externalization and adaptation to a subsequent insertion into society.

The theme is coexistence

Obviously he refuses, and of course then accepts. Living together won’t be easy.

Separated six years ago, he receives a proposal to spend the 30 days of the title with La Loba, who has a mental health problem.

Suar does not laugh at mental health, because he has not entered the day you love me, but some symptoms or situations experienced by La Loba are downright comical. Obsessive, self-centered (well: Turbo is self-centered too, he thinks of himself before others), he can burn down an apartment or ask to be told sexual jokes to relax.

Just as the film has a correct narrative, despite some underlining and some reinforcement from the music of Nicolas Sorin, Suar has been able to count on the contribution of Chango Monti in photography and Mercedes Alfonsín in the artistic direction.

It is also true that, in Javier Gross’s screenplay, this time the secondary characters contribute less and are not there to return to the walls as often happens in comedies, When Harry met Sally whatever comes to mind. They are blurred and practically have no weight: Campi promises and then disappears; that of Jorge Suárez’s neighbor is more of a speck and is wasted.

Suar already has idioms that the faithful spectator, who follows him, quickly identifies. As with other Argentine actors, such as Federico Luppi or Rodolfo Ranni. You can change the name, but it remains the same, and its effectiveness always depends on the script and the hand of the director, as happens with other comedians.

Jorge Suárez, in the role of Campi, takes on supporting roles in the film.

Pilar Gamboa has a quite different role to what she usually plays with her group Lava Skin, although she is far from ignorant of the comedy, she obeys and is, like La Loba, on a swing between drama and laughter in this film. with which Argentina cinema hopes to grow when it comes to bringing its audience closer to theaters.
