American actress Anne Heche is in desperate condition after a car accident last week in Los Angeles and “is not expected to survive”, according to US media.
The accident caused “serious brain injuries,” according to a statement issued Thursday by a representative of the 53-year-old actress, quoted by various media.
“It has long been her choice to donate her organs and keep her alive to determine if any are viable,” the statement said.
“Anne had a big heart”
Anne Heche’s representative also appreciates the support of the actress, as well as the nursing staff who treated her at West Hills Hospital’s Grossman Burn Center, north of Los Angeles.
“Anne had a big heart and touched everyone she met with her generous spirit,” the statement continued.
“More than her extraordinary talent, she considered that spreading kindness and joy was her life’s work,” the text continues, adding that “she will be remembered for her courageous honesty.”
ongoing investigation
The actress has been in a coma since her accident on August 5 when her car crashed into a two-story house in the Mar Vista neighborhood, “causing structural damage and a major fire,” according to the Los Angeles Fire Department. The fire took 65 minutes to be put out by 59 firefighters, according to the same source.
Los Angeles police said in a statement Thursday that blood tests would be performed on Anne Heche and that investigators would “take the matter to the appropriate legal authority.” However, the police did not give details about the possible legal consequences.
Local media reported the same day that preliminary tests had come back positive for the narcotic. But other tests must be done to ensure that the positive result is not related to medical treatment.
According to TMZa publication specializing in celebrity coverage, citing unnamed law enforcement sources, Anne Heche tested positive for cocaine and fentanyl, an ultra-potent and addictive synthetic opiate used in some treatments.
