1988. The Berlin Wall is still there. But the Scorpion group managed to organize ten concerts in Leningrad. And the artists feel that they are living a very special moment in history.
“We saw the world change, right in front of our eyes. It was so powerful to see the soldiers in front of the stage who were doing security, turn around and be one with the fans. And so many little kids saying ‘Klaus, the cold war will end. very soon. There is a new generation, things will change”, recalls Klaus Meine.
Klaus is moved. He will try to tell these feelings in a song. Word and music! Quite a challenge when presenting the title to the members of the group.
“All these years, I’ve been focused on writing lyrics. And here I come up with a whole song, and I pitch it to people, like, ‘Come on, listen to this, guys. Think what?’ And I really thought they were going to tell me: no, stop, with an extra whistling part.”

Because it is the peculiarity. Whistling moments. And that, the American record label teams really didn’t like.
“It’s true. The American part of the record company didn’t like it at all. So we tried a lot of different things. And we always find that this whistle is a very important part. In doing it, we have the impression to let it go.
The song became the soundtrack for The Fall of the Berlin Wall. More than thirty years later, at each concert, it is a special moment.
“And when you play it, it’s not just the end of the cold war. It’s peace, in general. People who want to live in freedom, with their neighbors. And have a good life, a normal life.”
The group has also changed the lyrics of the title, on the last tour… In support of the Ukrainian people
