After 25 years of his latest work as a director, actor Johnny Depp is preparing to direct a film about the Italian painter and sculptor Amedeo Modigliani (1884-1920), which he will produce with Al Pacino and Barry Navidi.
A quarter of a century after his directorial debut in The warriorwho directed with Marlon Brandon in 1997, Depp will go behind the scenes to tackle the artist’s story, based on the work of Dennis McIntyre.
“I am incredibly honored to bring his life to the screen,” Depp said in remarks posted by The Hollywood reporter. “It was a life of great difficulty – she added – but in the end a triumph, a universally human story in which all viewers can identify”.
The film, which will begin production around April 2023, is the actor’s second job project after the media trial for defamation which pitted him against his ex, Amber Heard, who she had accused him of gender-based violence.
