Three years after his death, the city of Los Angeles continues to honor Nipsey Hussle’s legacy. This Monday, August 15, the rapper, who should have celebrated his 37th birthday, was honored with a posthumous star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Family and friends of the artist attended the ceremony on Hollywood Boulevard, broadcast live on YouTube.
“I think he would like everyone to remember that you can’t achieve your goals if you don’t commit to moving forward,” his longtime girlfriend, Lauren London, said during the ceremony.
Nipsey Hussle has dedicated his life to transformation and job creation in the Crenshaw neighborhood (South Los Angeles), where he grew up. It was on these streets that the rapper was shot to death on March 31, 2019, in front of his Marathon Clothing store.
The shooter, Eric Holder, was convicted in July of “first-degree murder” and faces life in prison. He will hear his sentence at a hearing scheduled for September 15.
A subway station is named after him.
In addition to the star on Hollywood Boulevard, the city of Los Angeles also honored the memory of Nipsey Hussle in early August by creating a subway station named after the artist. It serves the south of the city and is symbolically located a few meters from the Marathon Clothing store where the rapper was murdered.
In 2020, Nispey Hussle also posthumously received two Grammy Awards in 2020 for Best Rap Performance for racks in the middle and the best rap/singing performance for Higher.
