Italian actress and Hollywood star Gina Lollobrigida will run in Italy for the political elections September as an independent candidate in the Senate for a new left alliance.

He is 95 and will try his luck in politics again, since it is not the first time it has done so. In 1999 she decided to run for the European Parliament as a candidate for Romano Prodi’s Democrats.

Despite being a living myth of cinema, she didn’t get enough votes and had to make do with being appointed goodwill ambassador of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).

On this occasion, Gina Lollobrigida plans to run as an independent in the city of Latina, in the province of Lazio, southeast of Rome. His idea is to represent various districts of the Lazio, Sicily and Veneto regions for the Italy Sovereign and Popular Front (ISP).

It is a coalition that brings together various small formations such as the Communist Party, Civil Action or Socialist Fatherland, all groups opposed to the government of Prime Minister Mario Draghi. Its ideology is anti-system and eurosceptic. Among other things, it asks Italy to leave NATO and the European Union.

The diva announced her candidacy just a month after her birthday, and said she decided to get involved in this electoral adventure because she is tired of seeing how “politicians fight each other without ever getting anywhere”.

And he added: “As long as I have energy, I use it for important things, especially for my country”. Gina assures that if she is elected she will fight “for her to decide the people, from health to justice. Italy is bad, I want to do something good and positive “.

He also said that his inspiration is Mahatma Gandhi, “for his way of doing things” and for his doctrine of non-violence.

Despite being physically and mentally well, Lollobrigida will not participate in campaign events, but will post messages and videos to request a vote. The lineup the actress wants to participate with needs 3% of the votes to gain representation in the Senate, making it unlikely that she will become a senator.

The leaders of the group where the actress will perform are Marco Rizzo, secretary of the Communist Party, and Antonio Ingroia, former Italian judge, journalist and personal lawyer of Lollobrigida.

Ingroia assists the actress in the judicial war that opened with her only son, Milko Skofic, and her grandson, Dimitri, for managing her fortune. Both accuse the personal secretary of the diva, Andrea Piazzolla, 34, of squandering her assets by taking advantage of her advanced age and her psychological state.

A judge ordered a couple of years ago that the actress’s estate be managed by a special administrator until the dispute was resolved. The young man, as requested by the artist’s relatives and the Rome Public Prosecutor’s Office, is tried for squandering Lollobrigida’s assets.

Piazzola is accused of the crime of “taking advantage of an incapable”, which sentences from two to six years of imprisonment for anyone “procuring a benefit for himself or others by abusing the needs, passions or inexperience of a minor or abusing the State a person’s illness or mental deficiency.

Lollobrigida has always defended herself by claiming to be “completely lucid” in knowing what to do with her assets. Currently the lawyer Ingroia is trying to return to the actress the reins of the full management of her assets, even if, for now, justice is not in agreement with her and has rejected her appeals.

The star’s lawyer assures that the actress’s exit on the political arena is proof of her mental clarity: “In her lucidity she has always been an ambassador of Italy in the world, of peace. And since we, as Italy Sovereign of the People, have our own political program aimed at reaffirming national sovereignty, we believe that it can well represent this image of an Italy that wants to be above others again, sovereign and not subjugated. There are issues of which you are a direct witness, such as justice, or the situation of the elderly ”.
