From September 2 to 11, 13 films will be in competition at the 48th edition of the American film festival, which will give a privileged place to new directors, with eight debut films.

Cuban star Ana de Armas in the role of Marilyn Monroe and the first films by actors Olivia Wilde and Jesse Eisenberg: the American film festival in Deauville announced this Thursday the programming of its 48th edition that will take place from September 2 to 11 .

In total, 13 films compete in this edition, which grants a privileged place to new directors, with eight debut films.

“Call Jane” as opening film

For the opening night, the organizers bet on Elizabeth Banks and Sigourney Weaver on the poster of call jane by director Phyllis Nagy (screenwriter of the film carol published in 2015).

Among the rest of the films in competition, we must have war Horse of Gina Gammell and Riley Keough, the granddaughter of Elvis Presley. Presented out of competition but in the Official Section of the last Cannes Film Festival, the film, which tells the intertwined destinies of two children living on an Amerindian reservation, won the Camera d’or (Best First Film).

Note also the presence of the silent twins of the Polish Agnieszka Smoczynska. It had also been presented in a parallel section of the Cannes Film Festival. Inspired by true events, it tells the story of twins who refuse to communicate with the outside world.

Among the highlights of the festival, the screening of the long-awaited Blonde hairNetflix production by director Andrew Dominik (The murder of Jesse James by the cowardly Robert Ford2007), about the tragic fate of Marilyn Monroe with Ana de Armas in the title role.

The Cuban actress will receive on this occasion the New Hollywood Award, which salutes “the passion and commitment of the actors.”

Another highlight: the actor’s debut feature. The social network (2010) Jesse Eisenberg, When you’re done saving the worldbut also that of the American actress Olivia Wilde, do not worry honey (at the end of the festival) with Florence Pugh and pop superstar Harry Styles.

We will also have to reckon with James Gray and his Armageddon time that had divided critics at Cannes. Finally, on the documentaries side, highlighting the presence ofHallelujah: the words of Leonard Cohenabout the life of the Canadian composer of Suzanne.

The festival will also welcome actress Thandiwe Newton to present her with a Deauville Talent Award, while Lucy Boynton, discovered in Deauville with sing streetwill receive the New Hollywood award.
