The former vice president recalled that Juanes had participated in 2019 in “Venezuela Live Aid”, a large concert in the Colombian city of Cúcuta, bordering Venezuela, and whose objective was to allow the arrival of humanitarian aid to Venezuela.

This aid was rejected by the Venezuelan government, which at the time described it as an “attempted invasion” of the country by the United States.

“Juanes, I tell you one thing: here the president is still Nicolás Maduro, the one you said would not let you in. Nicolás is still the president and you are coming!” Added Diosdado Cabello, now a deputy but still behind President Maduro, number 2 of the Unitary Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV).

Juanes had publicly supported at that time the opposition Juan Guaidó, recognized as interim president by about 60 countries, including the United States and Colombia, which considered Maduro’s re-election in 2019 “fraudulent.”

On his Twitter account, Juanes wrote on August 11: “Excited to return to Venezuela, one of the countries that launched my career. I’m counting the days.”
