While Jonah Hill just finished making his documentary stutzthe actor announced that he will not be promoting his upcoming projects to preserve his sanity.
In an open letter published in the US media TermJonah Hill explains that he suffers from anxiety attacks that are “exacerbated” when he has to “speak in the media or at public events”.
“You will not see me promoting stutz, nor any of my next films. I am taking this important step to protect myself. If I got even sicker promoting the movie, I wouldn’t be true to myself and the movie’s message,” he said in his letter.
“I want to normalize talking about anxiety”
Within stutz, Jonah Hill opens up about his mental health with his therapist, Dr. Phil Stutz. It was during the making of this documentary that the actor, who appeared in 21 Jump Street or in don’t look up she realized what might be making her anxiety worse.
“Thanks to the introspective journey that I was able to take through this film, I understood that I spent almost 20 years with anxiety attacks, which are accentuated by public appearances,” he writes in his open letter.
And he adds: “With this letter and with stutzI want to normalize talking about anxiety and that people who suffer from it take steps to feel better and that their loved ones can better understand their problems.”
In addition to this documentary, Jonah Hill will also be in the cast of the Netflix film Your people which he co-wrote with Kenya Barris.
