The cult program, which changes time slots, did not find an agreement with the two drivers to return.

Numbers and letters lose their two pillars. Bertrand Renard and Arielle Boulin-Prat, who have served as referees on the show for 47 and 36 years respectively, will leave France Télévisions’ landmark show at the start of the school year. This was announced by Alexandra Redde-Amiel, director of entertainment for France TV, this Friday in the columns of the Parisian.

“We did not agree and we are sorry,” he said. “We thank Arielle and Bertrand for the beautiful game page they have written for so many years.”

This departure results from a dispute over the new programming of this cult game launched in 1965 (first under the title the longest word), always according to the parisian. Broadcast daily in mid-afternoon since its debut, Numbers and letters changes its schedule to migrate to the weekend, with a broadcast on Saturday and Sunday at 5:15 p.m., starting the week of August 29. Of five numbers per week, only two will be recorded starting in September.

“This change of box is part of our strategy to enrich France 3’s editorial offer over the weekend, which also includes the arrival of Michel Drucker with ‘Vivement dimanche'”, explains Alexandra Redde-Amiel again. “We want to offer ‘Numbers and Letters’ to a family audience of all generations.”

PAF’s longest running show

Arielle Boulin-Prat and Bertrand Renard will participate in this new formula on the weekends of September 3 and 4, then on September 10 and 11 before retiring. They will be replaced. Laurent Romejko, who has hosted the show for 30 years, returns for this new redesigned season.

Numbers and letters is the second oldest PAF program, behind the unfading lord’s day. Organized since 1992 by Laurent Romejko, Numbers and Letters was introduced first by Christine Fabréga, in the 1960s, then by Patrice Laffont, at the helm for almost 20 years, and more briefly by Laurent Cabrol and Max Meynier.
