the king of malesthe new Mexican production series created by the duo Mariano Cohn and Gastón Duprat for the Star + platform, began his recordings in the Aztec country.

In the key of a dramatic comedy with high doses of humor and irony, it tells the story of Charly, a young transgender who lives in one of the most male-dominated cities in Mexico and signs up to participate in a contest that chooses the most male-dominated in the community.

The new fiction is part of the agreement that Disney Latin America has signed with Argentine directors, screenwriters and producers to develop twenty projects, some of which have already been released, such as Alternative Therapy -with Carla Peterson e Benjamin Vicuna– or the Mexican black comedy The gallant.

They are joined by other long-awaited serial productions in Argentina, such as The one in charge, with Guillermo Francella and with a premiere scheduled for October; or Whateveranother dramatic comedy with Luis Brandoni and the special participation of Robert De Niro.

plot and cast

the king of males is composed by eight 45-minute episodes and is directed by the Mexican Fernando Urdapilleta, who he has already directed The gallant. TV has changed, he hasn’tanother story devised by Cohn-Duprat.

is approx the first series starring a young transgender. It is the Mexican actor Luis Tirado Morales, who plays Charly. Christian Chávez (Jerónimo), Alejandro de la Madrid (Alonso), Fernanda Borches (Estela), Ian Vinitzky (León), Rubén Zamora (Lázaro), Gabriela Platas (Claudia) and Alejandra Zaid (Antonia) complete the main cast.

The plot probably takes place in the fictional city of San José de las Tunas the place with the oldest traditions in Mexico in terms of a gender perspective.

There, a young trans named Charly, who recently made her gender transition, decides to enroll “The king of males”a legendary contest that has made the place famous and aims to determine who is the most macho young man in the community.

Charly’s participation in the competition will upset the life of the cityforever transforming the inhabitants and traditions of the place.

Acid comedy about Mexican machismo

The production will be shot in the coming weeks in various locations in the country, such as the city of Nopala de Villagrán in Hidalgo and Las Estacas, a natural park in Morelos, as well as in Mexico City.

Through humor and sarcasm, the new production offers an acidic look at machismo in Mexico and Latin American societies in general, shedding light on toxic masculinities and deeply rooted patriarchal traditions for decades.

The series features a wide range of different characters, whose different ways of thinking, feeling and seeing the world cause conflict and drive elements of humor throughout the story.

In their challenge to established social mandates and their struggle to achieve what they dream of, the strong and empowered characters who drive the story will win over – and make them laugh – audiences in every episode.
