One Pinocchio can hide another. While Netflix will release its adaptation of Carlo Collodi’s play by Guillermo del Toro later this year, Disney is opening the fire with its own version, a live-action remake of the 1941 cartoon.
This new film, signed by Robert Zemeckis, the director of Return to the future Y Forrest Gump, will be available on the Disney + platform from September 8. In the meantime, a trailer has been posted online.
Worn by Tom Hanks (Geppetto), Joseph Gordon-Levitt (Jiminy Cricket), Keegan-Michael Key (Grand Coquin), and Cynthia Erivo (Blue Fairy), this pinocchio promises to be very close to the original cartoon, of which it faithfully reproduces every scene.
We also find the original songs, like When we pray to the lucky star. However, a new character has been invented for the needs of the film: Sophie the seagull, who in the original version is voiced by Lorraine Bracco (The sopranos).
Disney is preparing other live-action remakes of its classics for the coming months. A new version of Snow White and the Seven Dwarveswith Raquel Zegler (West Side Story) in the title role, will be released next year.
