Jimmy Fallon. A woman accuses him of allowing himself to be sexually assaulted by one of his Saturday Night Live collaborators.
A woman who is suing the former star of Live Saturday night (SNL)Horatio Sanz, for sexual assault, asked the court for permission Add to Jimmy Fallon, Lorne Michaels and Tracy Morgan as defendants, claiming to have allowed Sanz’s misconduct. Fallon is the host of the cycle, Michaels, its creator and producer, and Morgan, like Sanz, is part of the stable cast of SNL.
The complainant, identified only as Jane Doe, argues that Sanz “made” her when she was a teenage fan of the show. She also said that Sanz kissed her, groped her, and tried to mistreat her at her party in May 2002, when she was 17.
The lawsuit against Sanz was filed in August 2021 under a state law that opened a two-year “search window” that allows victims of child sexual abuse to file complaints that would otherwise have been banned by the statute of limitations.
More recently, New York City amended its law to create a two-year window, allowing prosecutors to sue anyone who permitted such conduct.
Live parties on Saturday night
According to the complaint, the accuser and her teenage friends regularly attended the after parties organized by the famous program Live Saturday nightbetween 2000 and 2002 and attended by the public.
In the complaint, the woman claims Fallon and Sanz drank with her at these partiesand that Fallon once asked her about her age and she replied that she was a high school student.
Also in that same context, she met Lorne Michaels, during one of the parties, who gave her advice on how to pursue a career as a writer, according to the figure of the complaint.
The lawsuit alleges that Morgan rented a space for an after party in May 2002, where Sanz allegedly groped her against her will.
Sanz’s attorney, Andrew Brettler, denied the allegation, saying this the woman asked for a payment of $ 7.5 million before filing a lawsuit last year.
Did the employees know this or not?
The original complaint was filed by attorney Jeffrey P. Fitz, naming Sanz and the NBCUniversal network as defendants. Fitz also said 18 NBCU employees knew or should have known about Sanz’s general behavior and sexual misconduct, including Fallon, Morgan and Michaels, as well as many other cast members of SNL.
NBCUniversal, for its part, filed a motion to dismiss the complaint in April, arguing that the chain was not responsible for the conduct outside working hours by Sanz.
“Employers have no general duty to protect third parties from the possibility of sexual abuse by their employees,” the network’s lawyers wrote.
Doe hired a new lawyer, Susan Crumiller, in June. Crumiller notified the court of his intention to change the case, which made the motion of rejection questionable. Crumiller requested a hearing on September 8 to get permission to file the modified version, adding Fallon, Michaels and Morgan as defendants.
This was clarified by a spokesman for the NBC the television network will try again to have the case dismissed. “Regardless of Jane Doe’s changing narratives, NBC intends to renew her motion to dismiss,” she said in a statement.
