Daniel Craig’s experience with major franchises, especially the James Bond series, has helped him overcome public expectations and self-imposed pressures in making a sequel to With a Knife and a Bow.

Craig told the British magazine (specializing in film) Empire that the challenge with Knives out 2 it was to create something that could match the quality of the original “without becoming a pastiche in itself”.

In movies Between knives …directed by Rian Johnson, Craig plays the peculiar southern detective Benoit Blanc. The first film is credited with reintroducing modern viewers to the old-school charm of murder mysteries.

With its sharp social commentary, Johnson’s Oscar-nominated screenplay also gave this notoriously stereotypical genre a contemporary twist. All of which means that expectations for the sequel are skyrocketing. And as the star of a James Bond ride that has had its ups and downs, Craig understands that better than others. In his own words:

“I’ve spent the last 15 years of my life trying to do it in a franchise, so I’m not afraid of it. If you have the right people on the team and the right talent, you can do it. Rian is a great writer and he doesn’t want to repeat himself. We also don’t want to disappoint people; we want the public to enjoy the world we created in the first and continue to believe in this ”.

Empire also released a new photo from the film, in which Craig takes his famous pose of staring at the middle distance. While the image doesn’t reveal much about the film’s plot or setting, it will certainly reassure audiences that the strong fashion game from the first film remains intact in the sequel.

The color of Blanc’s shirt would make Elio de Call me by your name sit back and notice, as his tie may get lost in Craig’s melancholy.

Priority, franchising

Like Tom Cruise, Craig now works almost exclusively in franchising; the latest films of him outside the series James Bond Y Knives out were Lucky Logan Y to say Five years ago.

If things had turned out slightly differently, Craig would have had two additional series to juggle: he should have The girl with the dragon tattoo Y The Adventures of Tintin they would have spawned sequels, but they didn’t, for various reasons.

Craig played Bond in five films: Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace, Skyfall, Specter Y There is no time to die, over 15 years. The latest film came out last year receiving a positive critical reception and a notable success at the box office.

there is no time to die it grossed $ 774 million worldwide, against a budget of $ 250 million. The first Knives out It was a box office hit in its own right, grossing over $ 300 million on a $ 40 million budget.

The success of the film piqued the interest of Netflix, which bought the rights to two sequels for nearly $ 500 million. Glass Onion is also starring Dave Bautista, Madelyn Cline, Kathryn Hahn, Jessica Henwick, Kate Hudson, Janelle Monáe and Leslie Odom Jr.

The film will premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in September. and will screen at the London Film Festival in October, before debuting on Netflix on December 23.
