She is the one who beautifies all the Émilies since 1979. On the occasion of the launch of an anthology of her father on October 14 and the return to the stage of the musical comedy that she inspired at the age of 4, Philippe Chatel’s daughter, Émilie , speaks for the first time, in an interview with Parisian.
If at 46 years old, Émilie Chatel has always lived away from the spotlight, now she emerges from her silence to continue giving life to the music of her father, who died in February 2021 at the age of 72.
“I want the people who love him to be able to listen to him. I fight so that we don’t forget him,” he explains in the columns of the Parisian.
“‘Émilie Jolie’ is sacred to me”
Émilie was only 4 years old when Philippe Chatel created the character of Émilie Jolie and her famous song, the album of which has sold more than two million copies. As a child, she explains that she never saw her father play on stage and was not associated with her projects, not without some regrets.
“I wanted to protect myself, I think. […] When I was older, they staged ‘Émilie Jolie’ at the Cirque d’Hiver. I was old enough to play the girl, I took singing lessons, they didn’t want to, it hurt me, ”she confesses.
That is why, with nostalgia, those who work in the film industry announce the return of the musical tale, seen by a million spectators, at the Casino de Paris from October 22.
“‘Émilie Jolie’ is sacred to me. […] I was too young to realize the impact, but it moved me. I am still very moved. Also, seeing him again without dad for the first time is going to be very hard, ”she assures.
In homage to her father, Émilie Chatel also wishes, with the help of her brother Nicolas, to ride emily jolie on Broadway for the musical to be “sung by the new generation”.
“But what can we do without dad in charge? We need an artist that we love to take things in hand… I don’t want to do anything,” he concludes.
